So,
Here I am in my T10 or my Viper. I need to travel to a system on the other end of the bubble. Let's say 200Ly from my current position. I dont use a Fuel Scoop, because this isnt something I do that often, so I know I am in for a chore to get there. But should I be? This highly advanced routing computer on my ship (a 1000 years in the future mind you) leaves alot to be desired. Let me preach on it:
Option One: Fastest Route. By choosing this, the routing computer will make bigger jumps, resulting in fewer jumps. But the increased fuel requirements will leave me well short of my destination. This wouldnt be the end of the world, if I could just have an easier way to find refuel points along my path, and have the computer plot to them when the route is nearing its End of Line. But it wont. Its smart enough to know when I am going to run out of fuel, but not smart enough to show me a gas station near there. Recent improvements are at least now showing me the last refuel Star, which is awesome BTW. But what about people who arent scooping? What other choice do I have?
Option Two: Efficient Route. In alot of cases, this will indeed get me all the way to my destination without refueling, but it usually requires many more jumps. While Option One might be completed in, lets say, 15 jumps. That same route on Efficient is going to be something like 75 or 100 jumps.
Ultimately, what I really wanted was the option that says "Get me there without needing to refuel". Which is likely a mix of smaller and larger jumps. We can jump through some hoops to work around this. Sometimes I start out on efficient and just check the map every few jumps to see if I can switch to efficient for the rest of the trip. Sometimes I go fastest and just search (painfully) the star map for a fueling station near the End of Line. Then repeat once I get there for the rest of the route. But really, the routing computer is advanced enough by the year 3304 to do this sort of thing right? Or at least, it should be....
