"Destination target obscured" before launching from Planetary Outposts

How many times has a Commander finished their business at a planetary outpost, selected their next destination, and proceeded to launch, only to find that the star is on the other side of the planet?

When this happens, the Commander has to go back to the right pane, select the local destination and use super cruise to launch before switching back to their original destination after it becomes visible.

It'd be really convenient for Commanders, and hopefully not too onerous on FDev, if players got a "Destination target obscured" message when they select a target destination that is actually on the other side of the planet. Then they will know to select a local body in the system and jump to Supercruise.

It's a tiny thing, and probably not the biggest of priorities, but I'm sure other Commanders have also found this annoying.

o7 and thanks for all the great work!

What you need to do is bind another button (or button combination) to Enable Jump to Supercruise as opposed to Enable FSD (the latter of which will engage a hyperspace jump if you have another system targetted and a jump to Supercruise if not). This way, when you turn to your target and find it obscured you simply trigger your supercruise, fly around the body and then hit your normal jump button. No need to mess around changing targets.

yes I think we all had to endure this at least once.

maybe it could go supercruise locally without asking a question .. if the destination is hidden.

besides, I almost got destroyed sometimes because of the heat .. realizing a little late why nothing happens :p

I actually don't use the FSD button. I have one bound for Supercruise and one for hyperjumping. I don't like being unable to supercruise when another system is targeted, not only in the case of an obscured target.

You don't need to select a local destination, you can just unselect the obscured one and go to supercruise.

This.

I have separate buttons and I don't need to untarget. I can go into supercruise until far enough up/around the planet to jump without altering my targeting.

I just enter SC and get far enough away, no course correction needed.

I assume OP you have one button bound for both SC (Low & High wake?) I have two separate buttons.

I have the same button, but on shift modes.

Y + hat switch up = supercruise
Y + hat switch down = hyperdrive

Y by itself is hyperdrive if another system selected, supercruise otherwise.

Problem solved :)

Hope this can help... The 3 key commands for supercruise / hyperjump :
- toggle FSD : go in supercruise from normal space / exit supercruise to normal space
- engage hyperjump : does as it says, or if no target system is select this one acts as the toggle FSD
- resume route : select the next system on the plotted route

in fact, I do the same thing, I select a local destination, but it is to avoid using an extra keyboard key (I play mouse keyboard), after several tests I concluded that it was easier for me to do like this.

I always arrange to maximize the keyboard keys and make them closer and more accessible to each other to react quickly. I had to make choices.

As said before, there are much easier options, just launching into local SC with a bound shortcut is probably the easiest, it actually took me a while to realise I could do this myself :D

There are still things I am finding out that I could kick myself for not querying long ago so and I have been playing a couple of years now so I don't make fun of people who make seemingly obvious mistakes. Mind you I have never managed to get the hang of the camera suite, oh well.

Fly safe CMDR

no, I would not use an extra keyboard key to do that .. there is already enough control like that.. but this is a personal choice on my part.
