General / Off-Topic Destiny has me distracted...

Anyone here playing Destiny? I'm absolutely crazy about it. Best game I've ever played. I got me thinking about landing on planets. If there is ever going to be combat on the planets in Elite, I hope they can do something sort of like this. The Halo/Destiny style of combat is probably to arcadey for the Elite universe, but the action is Destiny is second to none.

Anyone else playing? I just got to Venus...

I was looking forward to this, but I got so focused and distracted with Elite I completely forgot/didnt notice it had launched.

I'll pick it up tomorrow if I like what I read about the feedback.

Installed my lads are playing. Nice game, nice graphics but not really anything groundbreaking. I am hoping that FD add something to the FPS that takes it beyond just FPS.

I think the way they are handling multiplayer is pretty slick, also surprisingly similar to Elite. The thing I think Bungie does better than anyone is their "15 seconds of fun" stacked back to back to back. The pacing, the mechanics, it's all just so well done...

Got round to trying it with the Vita last night. Dissapointingly it doesnt do second screen, but remote play works well. Confusing controls though. Game itself looks nice, but as its a shooty I'm getting quite bored of it already :(

I don't have it as I just have a PC.

But the Angry Joe review doesn't do the gameplay any favors. Seems pretty predictable and repetitive. And loading screens are pretty but I am really, really looking for ED to break ground on seamless planetary landings in rich environments. I know No Man's Sky is working on it but so far their approach seems a bit too procedural and cartoonish for my likes- more for my kids.

I too hope FD are able to tweak FPS mode into something old and something new. It will be refreshing I think to have zero-g effects.

It's a fun enough game - some of the co-op combat can be really enjoyable.

It's just not very deep. There were better, and MOAR, gameplay choices and mechanics even in something like Icewind Dale, or Bard's Tale - which is exactly what this game is trying to be - except set in space and shooty.

Upgrade X, buy Y, go back into same dungeo.... planet, wipe everything, sell loot, level up, repeat. It's not bad as a game loop, plenty of other games do the exact same thing - but here it just feels quite "hollow". There is very little feedback on exactly what you have achieved, or indeed how your character has progressed.

Loading times are quite terrible, even on a SSHD, and I'm somewhat bemused to still see everyone grasshoppering everywhere like it's the 90's.

Even so - it's still quite good entertainment.
