Destroy System Authority Vessels Missions

Hi folks,

I'm a little confused. I'm trying to rank up with the Empire Faction. In my local system there is a local faction called "Empire Consulate". This faction has 80% influence in my current system. I have done missions before for this Empire Consulate faction and have had one "Naval Ascension" mission offered and completed successfully so far.

Now I see there are missions sponsored by the "Empire Consulate" to destroy system authority vessels in this same system. This doesn't make sense to me... if I go killing system authority vessels in this system which I'm currently an ally of, won't I become wanted and lose rep with the Empire Consulate since it basically IS the authority?

What am I missing here?

purple central industries in pand. Kill sys auth vessels belonging to PCI.

There are kill bounty hunter misions ( we dont have any kill pirate missions which is weird)

The way missions in this game works is a mess. FD have already said they need a lot of work so I assume they’ll improve in the future.
Anyway, if you are looking to rank up with the Empire, do not take a mission like that. The ones to kill pirates are fine but killing system authorities will tank your rep and get you wanted.
The best way to rank up is to do missions for several factions who are allied with the main faction, rather than concentrating on just one faction. So find a nice neighborhood in Empire space and get to work. Any missions will do so it’s safer to just do the transport and fetch missions, they won’t get you in trouble.

Be very careful with these, they will plummet your rank into a bottomless abyss. And I do mean bottomless.

This been pondering me too.
Is authority vessels always allied to the current rulong faction or are they somehow a sort of third part?

It's like the conservative party paying you to kill police... or the Democratic party paying you to kill FBI... very strange indeed. It might be ok if the faction concerned had a very low influence.
