Destroy the Thargz ? Too early for me

Please find below my opinion for the Thargoids fight. It's only my opinion, but I want to share it with you, as I did it in French this morning. I'm sorry if I does'nt quickly answer to your feebacks. My english is bad.

Thank to Alex for the translation.

Statement about the Thargoids

Although I have very little doubt about the hostile nature of the Thargoids, I will not open fire on them yet and call on the players to do the same. Some things will happen in the near future and it is possible that shooting and destroying them will be necessary, but I think it is far too early.

Let me explain why :

1/ Thargoids aren’t a treat for the players

At this time, excepting if you fly to Pleiades Sector, and once arrived, drop onto a non humain signal USS, it happen nothing to you. No destruction of player ship out of this area, no massive thargoid invasion in inhabited space.

2/ Thargoids aren’t a treat for the BGS

At this time, nothing can give us a proof that Thargoids presence affect the BGS, its economy, and the minor factions. Until we’ll have the proof of the opposite, Thargoids arrival don’t create scarcity, pandemia, they don’t destroy orbital stations, don’t siphon the credits the players have, etc.

3/ AEGIS and the sheeps

It is interesting to see such players aware of the superpowers manipulations, try to do their best to fight this, but running to the CG organized by AEGIS. What is exactly AEGIS ? It is a super superpower ! In few weeks, this coalition of Feds, Imps and Alliance interests got the full power in the Galaxy regarding Thargoids affair. AEGIS provide the weapons, and defense measures, decided without any valuable argument that Thargoids was a treat and that they must be destroyed.
From my side, seeing such power without any counter power, for such a serious matter than an alien’s invasion, in the hands of a unique organization tell me clearly that there is something wrong here.
To be clear, I’m not trusting AEGIS and, by principle, will not following their orders.

4/ Are we sure that Thargoid vessels are realy destroyed ?

Everywhere, players show their victories against thargoids vessels by claiming that they have destroyed at least one of these. But are we sure ? What if destroying one thargoid vessel would making spawn 2 of them in the other side of the Galaxy ?

At this time, and until we get the proof of the opposite :
We don’t have any clue about what we destroyed,
We don’t know IF we effectively destroyed them,
And finally, we don’t have any idea about the consequences of these acts.

5/ Frontier’s message

Frontier’s message is the most important thing, without any doubt. 2.4 provide something invisible in game at this time, something Frontier insist : the story of the game will evolve with our behaviours. We’d debate hours about the probable “non choice” : war is the only way Frontier wants, betting on the fact we’ll destroying Thargoids, “non choice” that would let Frontier justify the rest.
Whatever Frontier decided to do, there is one thing certain :
What we’ve done before 2.4 had no impact or a weak impact.
What we are doing right now have an impact.

Because of all of these points (probably unperfects, I’m surely not objective), I refuse to shot Thargoids until knowing really what we are the consequences. I also refuse to be like a man with a blindfold on his eyes, and let AEGIS providing me a weapon and shoting when the organization will give the order to me.

I think you're probably right Aymerix; I just can't make up my mind whether I want to have a shot at shooting them or not - despite my (obvious, given the sig) science-leanings :)

I think it's fair to say, however: we're going to need at least some pilots who are adept at taking them out - so if you're not at least going to be shooting them; I recommend getting familiar with GluttonyFang's excellent vids and content on how to take them out Solo: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/380292-How-to-Solo-a-Thargoid-Interceptor-Video

The Thargoids have proven to be able to wipe the bubble if that was their plan. But the only instances of Thargoid encounters we had witnessed never ended with the Thargoids attacking, and they didn't even respond to agressive behaviors for a time. We saw some aftermaths of what appeared to be battles between military ships and thargoids. But we don't know the circumstances. For all we know, Han might have shot first.

War is a good way to keep population under control and the powers that be have been jumping on every chance they got to send us to war. They might even need to hide something the thargoids might be revealing. In any case, the current course of action doesn't make any sense. Political powers act as if they knew the thargoids had declared war on humanity, but we were never shown any evidence of that.

The only thing that's for sure, no thargoid attacked me nor any commander I know. Their presence is obviously disturbing and intriguing, but we don't know how they think, we don't know if they're all the same and all share the same objectives - maybe some might have been our allies -, and I'm afraid we're witnessing an escalation to war built up by some wrong interests.

I'm curious is there anyone who played in 84 who wants to be "friendly" with the Thargoids ? - they weren't way out in the Pleiades then - they came right into the bubble - Lave, Zaonce.... you weren't there man, you weren't there..

I played in 84. I was there... no trauma though. We are dealing with a whole new breed here... i will rethink your words though, once we see the octagonal things back in action... :D

No need to tell you that I'm agree with you.
Just wanna add some points.

It seems that we have other interactions than the sole pewpew https://youtu.be/RFYT8VqR-XY?t=1h7m46s (sorry, it's in french). In this video, french cmdr was hyperdicted and drop on a 3 thargoids instances. Others joinned him and try few interactions.
A thing that must be noted is that 2 of the 3 thargoids followed him and probably one of them was healing his shield !

Countless humans ships floating in human populated systems, destroyed by thargoid weapon technology. What about all the pilots.
This Aliens you talk about, with their peaceful aligment should be able to find other solutions than creating such a destruction.
They dont try to comunicate and dont react on anything.
I tried to rescue some of these pilots in their pods. They react aggressive.
there is no sign that we have a very wise neighbor. And facts shoud weight more than wishes.

Agreed too, i was there in 1984 and i am for a peaceful way of dealing with the thargoids ;)

I was there, too. Don't steal their drones, even if it might be lucrative, YET! ;)
No, I agree. We should try to find out more about the Thargoids and the sudden (re)appearance of AEGIS is just a little too convenient.

I was there and the experience is completely different now then back in 84.
In 84 they dropped in and had only one goal, kill you.
Now, when you drop into a non human ss, they don't attack you by definition, when they hyperdict you they don't attack unless provoked.

These times are different, they are different.
I'm not going to shoot first, I'm curious if we can find a way to mutually interact.
When I got hyperdicted the Thargoid followed my every move, like it was waiting for something, not aggressive at all and I could jump out at any time without any trouble.
These are not the killer Goids from 1984, if they were then the Pleiades would've been a killing field by now, I'm not talking about the Imp and Fed wrecks we find, we don't know who started shooting there, but about slaughtered players.
