Destroyed instantly on startup

So I was bounty hunting in Zaonce for the community goal. I'd built up a tidy sum in vouchers, but real life called and I had to leave the computer.

With my ship parked near the RES zone, I saved and quit to the main menu. A few minutes later I returned and started it up again.

But as soon as the game screen appeared, I was already in mid detonation, bouncing off an asteroid while the ship's computer yelled 'eject! eject!'

I had no opportunity to even grab the controls - the cockpit controls never appeared, since the ship was only two seconds from exploding. That's a 1m insurance fee and all my vouchers gone.

Does anyone know if Frontier ever rectify things like this? Seems like a bug to me. I would use the ticketing system, but the one and only time I bothered with that before it took nearly five months (!) to get a reply.

The asteroids move you know... they're orbiting the planet! You probably spawned inside of one.

Fly far up (or down) before you log out. I do and I has never died.

Never log off inside asteroid fields, it is possible that you come back near/inside one when return.

You may try to open a ticket for an insurance fee reimbursement, but I'm not sure if they will be able to help you.

But the ship was basically destroyed while I was logged out. I logged back in to see its final moments.

Is this the legendary 'background simulation' I've heard about?

Not really. You just spawned inside an object. File a ticket with them and you might get a reimbursement. In the future, go far enough out to get out of mass locked before logging out (or better yet, supercruise away a short distance).

They will likely fix this in 1.3 so you never spawn in the mass locked region.

Even though my sarcasm meter comes up with a reading, that's not far off at all.

Ticket it though.

Sounds like a bug or a programming oversight (or just a really unfriendly piece of design work).

I wonder if the same thing could happen if I log off near a space station, then log back on when it's orbited over my position...

Well I wrote a ticket, so I'll see what happens. I was more annoyed about the bounty vouchers than the credit money, to be honest - I've lost the same amount a couple of times by slamming this ship into a wall while trying to liven up the docking experience.

Cheers!

I lost 6 mil or so in vouchers in a res when I slammed my vulture into a rock on the dark side of the planet.
Seriously!! In a 20mil spaceship, I expect a headlight that is better than a candle!! :)

I just got a reply back from Support, and they've refunded the insurance cost plus a bit extra for the lost bounties. I'm happy with that!

They said they're aware of a few issues when logging into asteroid fields and are currently investigating.

Bounty hunting will recommence tonight and I'll be more careful where I leave my ship. Thanks, Frontier!

No. Background simulation is about prices, supply and demand, NPC trading, minor factions and their influence, and control over stations and star systems.

It has nothing to do with the game engine, except a few interfaces.

It still includes the fact that celestial bodies still move in real time whether you are playing or not.

I go and find a nice empty bit of space before i park up. Never anywhere near an asteroid belt or other moving celestial body...

didn't you get a you're ship is in danger message prompt before quitting? if had that a few times, so i just fly further out and then save, touch wood never had a problem so far!
