Destroying Capital Ships

Why can't we destroy capital ships?

I think it should be possible albeit extremely difficult without serious planning and a proper strikefleet of like-minded commanders. I do like them being present in the game but with how fragile every other craft can be in certain situations I don't see why capital ships are any different.

It's great seeing the animation of them jumping in and out of an instance, don't get me wrong, but when for example you have things like the Federal invasion of Maia and similar Imperial invasions I'd like to see these ships actually be vulnerable and take a risk by putting them so far from their supply or reinforcement chain.

At the very least have different levels of a c.g. change the battlefield? I.e. in Maia if Imps get to 3rd tier before Feds, the Fed cap ship would retreat. And further if the Feds had a simultaneous trade goal of providing weapons or materials, perhaps if they reached a certain tier in the trade goal the cap ship would be repaired and reappear, or have some other reaction or consequence besides improved pay. Things like this make your actions matter a bit more imo and give more dynamics to change a storyline.
