detailed surface scanner / ADS

i just had the advanced discovery scanner fitted the other day without a detailed surface scanner while collecting some engineers nonsense and it still scanned unexplored planets as i approached them...

does it still give you a tag, and the same funds, i dont understand it, is this a recent change?

Without DSS you get less information about stars/planets (no info about volcanism/atmosphere etc.) and less Cr after selling your scans to UC. AFAIK you still can "tag" without DSS.

totally correct.

@OP if you want to compare, do a scan while turning of the DSS in the right hand channel, take a screenshot, and than rescan the planet with a dss. you will miss things like temperatur, type of rings, reserves etc.

so for example the extra credits you get for planets with atmospheres wouldn't be applied using only the ADS?

but for non credit orientated exploration... i could take a AFMU rather than a DSS?

but i suppose the DSS will tell us what rocks are going to be on planets?

what a dilemma.

Just get a proper ship that can mount everything you need :) But anyway..

Level 1 scan = ADS honk. Basic size and orbital data only.
Level 2 scan = detailed scan without a DSS. Less data than with DSS. Does provide tags I believe.
Level 3 scan = bells and whistles scan, gives everything and you get the most cash. I wouldn't go out there without one, not just for credits but I also enjoy reading all the data on the more interesting bodies.

For exploration i can suggest you a ship with at least 6 internal compartments lik cobra or viperMKIV

decisions, decisions...

i personally wouldn't go exploring without a DSS, not so much because CR, but because the kind of information the DSS is giving makes up for some fun of mine exploring. "that water world looks really blue... let's see what is its atmosphere...". i'd always go DSS > shields > planetary vehicle hangar > AFMU > cargo rack... but that is just me.

Of course you can. However I don't think it's an good idea and I would never do that.

ADS, DSS and fuel scoop are a holy trinity of exploration. ;) (In my opinion, ofc.)

yup...wouldn't go exploring without these three. In fact it's all I currently have ;)

This is true, he had to chuck out the poop scoop for the fuel scoop.

Many are fearing his return and speculation is rife as to why his afterburners light up green.

Also, this would explain the new noise you get when hitting the boost button. It's actually the flush.

yep yep yep, your right, im babbling nonsense, i wouldnt get further than 100ly without wishing id packed one, and other explorations ships than the DBx haha no thanks.
