Newcomer / Intro Detailed Surface Scanner?

If I buy a Detailed Surface Scanner do I need to keep my Discovery Scanner to scan systems or does the DSS do the job of both scanners?

You need to keep your discovery scanner or better yet sell it and get an advanced or intermediate one.
The DSS just allows you to make more money from scanning each object.
The discovery scanners tells you where the unexplored bodies are.
