Hi everyone,

As a new explorer I was just wondering if it's necessary to scan 100% of a body to receive credits or can I scan a smaller percentage and get a smaller percentage of credits? Just about to embark but wanted to make sure that I get it right when spending time scanning. Obviously no point in scanning 75% and then drifting off elsewhere if it's been a waste of time.

If you get the scan up to 90% it'll give you the last 10% free as well

You can do some engineering on the DSS which broadens the range of it.

Cant remember now and I just logged out, Check the engineers section in the right hand panel in the ship. There's certainly one in the Bubble and Colonia. By memory it only goes up to a grade 3 giving you a 30 or 40% wider spread for each probe. So it's not a tone of mats to gather.

Just to be clear, you can exit the DSS and it remembers how much you've scanned, so for planets with big rings (snigger) you can leave the DSS and fly to a different position to finish off.

It's very easy to get to 90% even without the extra range.
And you can use ass many probes as you like, but will forfeit the bonus then.

I find approaching ringed planets with the ring edge-on results in less hassle with trying to shoot probes.

If you don't have them all, pin the blueprint and you can upgrade from and station (with outfitting, I think)

you can use online tools like Inara or apps like EDDiscovery to help with that. here's a snip from Inara to get things rolling...
