Detailed Surface Scanners ???

Could someone explain the working of one of these.

Just got one and not sure what 'extra' if any, information it gives me ???

Didn't want to be setup as an extra fire group or anything, just not sure how its helping me out ???

If you have DSS it works in parallel with your ship's normal passive scanner. You don't have to switch it on. When the scan completes there will be extra info on the planet, atmosphere, surface conditions etc which you can see in the System Map. The scan data will be worth more when you sell it with the extra detail.

Detailed Surface Scanner gives more information about the target you're scanning (atmosphere, mineral composition etc.) which leads to better rewards when selling the data. DSS works automatically, so you just need to scan the target as you did before. You'll get a short notification on the info screen about it.

The DSS doesn't need any fire group. Just target an unexplored planet and move close to it. At some point you will see a sort of swirling animation on that part of the hud to indicate that you are scanning. After a short while it should resolve and tell you it's analysing data, then tell you what it is e.g. icy planet. In theory it should increase the value of the data over that of the discovery scanners.

In the statistic menu for exploration there's two option detailled scan lvl 2 and detailled scan lvl 3.

How you get those scan reward ?
