Dev morale boost

(This thread isn't really about the game, or really worthy of any significant discussion, and I really don't want to start an argument here as seems to happen so often on these forums. Just wanted to give the devs a little moral boost.)

I'm quite a regular visitor to these forums and I've become more and more sympathetic for the devs recently, I'm seen more and more threads labelling the game as "pathetic" or the devs as "incompetent"
IMO this seems to be happening because many people here have been waiting for this game for decades, and all that time they had the image of the perfect game that would be exactly how they wanted it to be, and whenever something isn't to someone's liking people get upset, and vent on these forums, only to be read by the devs who are trying their best.

Having just completed a work experience placement with a game developer, I've realised just how big the scale of game development is, how much there is to do and how painstaking some of the work takes, even the office's network engineer(s) had a job of extremely unappreciated scope, and they aren't even directly involved in development! FD are a small team (relatively speaking) and have made huge progress over the time they've had so far, and are working extremely hard to do so. I remember back in beta there were updates and hotfixes released all night long, like every few hours, that's some serious dedication, that people don't seem to appreciate.

So what I'm trying to say is: You're doing a great job FD, no matter what all of these threads and posts are saying, you've made an incredible game and it's only going to get better, you can't please everyone, and I suspect that the people who come to moan (and by this I mean unconstructive complaining, there is admittedly a lot of helpful criticism which helps the devs) are just the vocal minority. Although there may be some problems, you guys are working at it, these things take time to fix. So keep it up FD, the sound design alone on this game makes it outstanding in my opinion, so just keep doing what your doing :D

Thanks,

While this doesn't excuse them from polishing and finishing the game in a reasonable time frame, I do recognise how monstrous of a job they have on their plate. My money is well spent, and I greatly appreciate what they do, and have faith that they'll get it done well and right.

Well said OP. I hope for more depth, but FD have done a great job, and while I've made what I hope are constructive criticisms, the forum sometimes seems awash with negativity, which is hardly condusive to the creative endeavours that the team labour at, God bless 'em. :)

SJA could certainly use a moral boost. She enjoys our cries of anguish just way too much <grin>.

*laughs* She just loves her minions. And lets face it, when you can take out elite anaconda's in vultures without much difficulty, something should change.

We're lucky to have her.

Oh, and I'm totally in love with the docking computer now, as compared to what it was like in beta.

What they have done regarding the core of the game is bloody marvelous. I hope that when we get down to the planets it will be jaw dropping. I hope they will fill the universe with lost ships, stations and ruins to explore.

I hope it will be scary and truly dangerous out there.

Now that was your 5 min of fame go back and continue the work.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Constructive criticism is well and good.... necessary even.... but it's important to remember that there are real people behind this project. That fact gets lost all too often online.

So, agree that no matter what people's opinion is of the game itself respect should be given, if for no other reason than it's the decent thing to do. ;)

I think FDEV would get less stick if it gave us some feed back on the stuff we are actually asking questions about.
Not just cherry picking the nicer questions. Hard stuff needs a response to, even if just to acknowledge it.

The way for any developer to get its community onside, is with a lot more interaction and honesty.

If something sucks, admit it, say we are working on it and hope to do this/that etc.

SOON(tm) isn't really good enough.

They have done a great job on some things but there is still some consistent complaints and issues with the game, they they know about it, we know they know about but have to guess what they think about it or what plan/want to do.

And if they don't know about it, well they should and we need to get that too.

The cheating and combat logging is a glaring issues I want answers to.
If they cannot fix it, just own up!

Thumbs up for the devs! Considering the enormity of their task, I'm saying they're doing a pretty good job so far.

What they have accomplished in only two and a half years of production is rather impressive. I can't think of many other games of this scope that have reached this level after that short amount of time (yes, short. 2.5 years is nothing in game development, especially when it comes to multiplayer games) with so relatively few devs and a "shoestring" budget.

Can't wait to see what's next! :)
