Game Discussions Diablo 4 announced

I don't think Destiny is a good example. At least not of this. It's a good example how totally ruin the immersion while trying to tell a story about a lone guardian. Nothing says " you're the last hope for the solar system" like seeing four other guardians jumping around erratically, shooting the trees and teabagging dead animals...

I think its a matter of perspective. I dont play this type of game for the story anyway. It almost always cheesy save the world from evil kind of boring stuff to justify killing this to get better loot for killing that. Looters are pretty repetitive and players are doing the same content over and over again. The atmosphere quickly fades away to more practical things like socialization etc. But thats just my opinon.

Yes. That's why I only play Destiny as far as finishing the story (while trying to ignore other players) and then simply stop. And yes, I am one of the people who play games for the story, Elite being basically the only exception for me.
I'm not saying there's something wrong with multiplayer games or games which prioritize gameplay over story in general. It's just Diablo was not that type of a game, before, and fans of the franchise may feel... well... disenfranchised.
If you turned Borderlands series into RTS, it may as well be a good game but people will be disappointed. That's my point.

Well, as it stands (deleting my battlenet account and refunding all my games) I probably won't be buying D4 anyway so this it more of an academic question of whether or not should companies include mechanics that directly contradict the very basis of a franchise.

My memories and my very basis about diablo are hacked lobbies with guys throwing duped legendaries around for everyone. Yeah, thats what the franchise is for me, so nothing of value is lost :D

Not a big fan of looters. I'll play them once through, if they are cheap enough, DRM free enough, and have an entertaining story, but I just can't get into them beyond that.

No.
DRM free. Blizzard. Pick one. You have to give them your mother's maiden name and your insurance number just to have their idiotic battle.net launcher from which you have to play all their games. I exaggerate, but not by as much as you think...

I haven't given Blizzard any money since 1997 and this part of the reason why.

I found the turn in the 3rd character (seeking knowledge) not very convincing.

I was more impressed with the display of emotions and the facial performance. The third guy also was quite literally at the end of his rope. Some people develop a strong sense of morality and courage in their last hours but that is far from the norm. Very possible that he simply "caved in" when he was confronted with how meaingless he and his situation is. Not everybody fights till the very end, many people simply stop and give up.

Also, while his part was critical he never was told or realized this cuz that knowledge could ve granted him the stoic resilience he would ve needed to overcome temptation. Instead he was cold, he was alone and he was in pain facing a horrible death by demonic hordes. Maybe he saw it as an "easy out".

People will accuse me of "reading too much into this" but seriously....its these moments and impressions that make or break a movie for me. Its something I can continue to think about, reflect on how I would ve acted myself and analyze if the shown flick was probable or realistic in the first place. I absolutely LOVED how much darker and grittier this short film was in compared to D3 as well.

I also full well realize that the trailer and the cutscenes within will probably be the very best this "game" has to offer. Personally I am not looking forward to Diablo 4. I dont have high hopes for it and truth be told....I m a bit bored with the ARPG genre and how companies these days approach the topic. New titles dont offer anything substantial over the older good titles that I already own and enjoy. A flashy trailer and better graphics really wont win me over.

Oh....and I do have a phone :)
