Here's another technique for finding the best price on specific items. It's worked 100% of the time for me so far.

I recommend using Inara.cz Outfitting section. It uses the EDDB database to allow you to search for specific parts at stations around the bubble and will display the nearest station to you. I tell it my location is Diaguandri and cross reference the results with the Galmap to find LYR owned systems. Since Diaguandri is near the middle of his territory, most of the results will be his. This guarantees a 15% discount. That extra 5% is nice on things like Anacondas, 7A fuel scoops, and such.

Besides this system, 64 Ceti, Seleru Bao, and 109 Piscium usually have everything I want. I sometimes have to bounce between them to outfit. You can get Clipper with the discount at Arjung, and a Courier at Baldr. Just in case anyone needed to find one. Unfortunately, there isn't an LYR system that sells a Cutter.

The shipyard experiences some malfunctions from time to time...you may end up with a Python when you purchase a Hauler.
No worry, you can file a claim at the customer service.

I'd take another Python if they brainfarted and charged me for a Hauler!

Of course it wouldn't go down like that but folks can dream right?

I keep checking the Active Discounts Thread - page 28 (have it bookmarked) looking to see if any LYR systems have picked up any of the newer large ships but I always close the tab disappointed.

DBX is a really good early explorer ship. It's got the range and the module slots to be effective. It can also bask in the heat of a star without a problem.

In terms of shipyards, I use Diaguadri, Lembava, Pikum, BD-04 797, LHS 20 and ix.
All LYR. All pretty well stocked.

It doesn't have the module slots, though, and it isn't really much cheaper than the AspX when fully kitted. It can't carry both AFMU and Hangar, which basically makes it obsolete for long range exploration in Horizons. It needs an extra slot to be viable for that. It's basically a lame duck ship since 2.0.

Ray gateway is fine. Discounted ships, one jump to pristine metallic rings and good Haz-Res sites.

Remember to equip a shield and some weapons. You don't want to be stranded a bazillion light years from the bubble when Frontier flips the ticked off alien switch and their buggy code chain interdicts you all the way home.
