Diamodback Explorer is not ready for "Horizons" exploration

If it only had one more class 1 internal slot it could fit everything that is needed for planetary exploration, which imo is 2 scanners (advanced & detailed), vehicle hangar, fuel scoop, shield generator and at least 1 cargo rack for whatever you could find on distant worlds. Without even a smallest cargo planetary exploration is somehow... incomplete.

Two class 4 slots, two class 3, one class 2 and what im asking is one class 1 slot then it would be perfect :).

Could be good too but i have feeling that devs will be more willing to change a small thing in one ship (they did before in FDL, Python etc) then to add or change scanner.

So changing the internal structure of each ship whenever they encounter a similar problem is easier than simply adding a module?

Adding a module should be far easier since you just copy one scanner and tack on another scanners extra ability while increasing the size.

Just to make it a LITTLE limited in efficiency we could have:

Advanced Exploration Scanner
Range: As Intermediate Exploration Scanner (1000 LS) Surface Scanner works as usual
Function: Couples Intermediate Exploration Scanner and Detailed Surface Scanner in one package.
Size: 2
Tonnage: 4
Cost: Twice that of Advanced Discovery Scanner (roughly 3 million)

Im not saying that is easier or harder but adding new scanner will affect all the ships (Anaconda gets a free class 4 slot, Asp Exp class 2 etc) and maybe just maybe devs don't want to change everything in one move.
For me personally one way or another seems good but how many times they modified ships before and how many times they added something new (not counting "Horizons" ofc) ?

Yep, would like to see combined scanners and universal limpet controllers. Perhaps it will come in looting and crafting.

Personally I would rather see that Scanners are something that you add with your Sensor Package.

So the size of the sensor package affects what you can fit in there. A S4 sensor can then have 4 sensors to it.

exploration scanner
bounty scanner
cargo scanner
surface scanner
frameshift scanner

-Adding a scanner would increase detection range by other ships since you send out more signals so ships with small sensors with a minimum of sensor emissions would be more stealthy.
-Adding more than one type of the same scanner increases scanning speed.

Some ships would loose on this but others would gain on it.

True, last time I decided to go for an exploration trip with my diamondbackX I had to forsake my hangar (decided to bring a cargo rack instead) and next time after that I didn't even bothered with DBX i just brought my ASP and that's it.

Also agree that scanners should have been on utility mounts, if not all at least the detailed surface scanner, that would release one extra internal slot and I might finally start using those utility mounts (empty most of the time in case of exploration ships).

They could also do something like this
E rated sensors - no scanner slots. Just basic ship radar.
D rated - 1 scanner slot
C rated - 2
B rated - 3
A rated - 4 scanner slots

Yea, that's a better solution.

Strong drawback for explorers in that case though. D rating for lighter weight but can only use ONE scanner.

Still, we would free up Utility slots AND internal module slots.

They should really go over what modules should be internal/ utility

I find it odd that discovery scanners are internal and not utility.
