Diamondback cockpit weirdness. Bug?

The DBE used to have yellow lights and panels/screens inside the cockpit. They are now blue, like in the DBS, but the light coming from them are still yellow. Even weirder, the DBS now has the DBE cockpit, while retaining the blue panels with the correct blue light coming from them, the inside of the cockpit is painted yellow and the exposed wires in the front of the cockpit are now covered with that grill cover (a la the DBE).

The hell happened? It's like the DBS cockpit was accidentally switched to the DBE's cockpit and then instead of fixing the problem, they just switched the lights to blue in the DBS and hope nobody noticed. But then they screwed that up as well and changed the screens to blue in the DBE (but not the light emanating from the panels).

Is this a known issue?

Didn't something similar happen with the Federal Whatever Ships a while ago? One of them suddenly got the canopy struts of one of its sister ships. I can't even remember whether it was acknowledged and/or fixed, but there's a certain familiarity about the scenario.

Not the only ship with internal changes to my knowledge. I think the asp explorer had a change to the rear door panel.

These can't be intentional changes though, these seem like mistakes. The DBE has blue panels that give off yellow light. The DBS has the DBE's cockpit, which is admittedly similar but objectively less cooler.

How does that even happen? Weird bugs

Dunno, it's odd. I found a few threads mentioning the problem by searching "fas canopy site:forums.frontier.co.uk" but only this bug report seems to have gathered any official FD Support feedback, and even it ends inconclusively.

Speculation elsewhere was that it was a simple copy/paste/batching problem with an update, and that it could be worked around by manually copying the correct asset files into the correct locations in the game's folders. I can't verify that. IIRC it was eventually resolved though (long time since I've flown a FAS) so hopefully the situation with the DBX will be similarly dealt with.

It is possible that the assets have very similar names for each ship and a spelling error just replaced one with the other (while lighting probably is a different object and therefore not necessarily replaced as well).

I remember when the Keelback was released, that the displays inside behind the chair were obviously from the Type-6, but I think at that time there were no new assets yet to misspell.

That sounds about right. Somewhere in the game there's a table that tells it how to draw the various ships ("A DBX's external shape is this set of 3D points and textures, and the cockpit is this other set"), and someone made a change to it and put the wrong value by mistake, probably as you said a cut'n'paste error. You can't do the renaming workaround any more though, because FDev has obfuscated all the directories with game resource data in them to prevent data mining.
