Diamondback Gunship ship variant

So, I've been playing this game for a week and so far, my favorite ship model has been the Diamondback. I love the agility the Scout offers, and have been using it and the Explorer as Interceptors for bounty hunting in the Resource areas, with backup from Feds. The only thing I dislike about it is the lack of 'variety' from both the models, while one is heavier, and offers better protection and weaponry, both don't meet the requirements I'd like for it to.

So, in the hopes of this suggestion being seen and liked by all, I propose a 'Gunship' variant based along the Explorer hull. 4x Medium hardpoints and 1x large, 2x mediums on the sides below the cockpit, the other 2x back on the top of the 'side wings' for excellent turret positions, and then the large in the same spot as the Explorer, right on the bottom of the nose. The cockpit needs to be stretched back a bit to allow the gunner seat, which will take the position of the pilot's, with the pilot's being raised and pushed back behind the auxiliary seat, so it sees over it clearly, almost like the Federal Dropship's, except in a line.

Any thoughts, questions, opinions? :)

(Also! Has anybody else noticed that the engine sound effects are EXTREMELY similar to a Republic LAAT from Star Wars? This is what inspired my 'Gunship' suggestion, in fact!)

hey, you are basically decribing the federal dropship in terms of hardpoint placement and type. it actually doesn't behave much different than a DBE.

I get that, but it's meant to have a better jump range then the Dropship, and be more equipped to chase down other fighters and, if outfitted right, able to engage Pythons or Vultures without much hassle. The Explorer can do both and maybe 1v1 a Vulture quite well when equipped just right, but needs another ship to help with the Python or double Chaff and PD.

I love the look of the Diamondback ships too.

I suggested a true rival to the Python the other day. A medium pad Diamondback something .
Because we all know the Python has no competition when it comes to medium pad tasks.

From the sounds of your description, you basically just described an Apache gunship. Lol

:D

Not that I'd complain.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinkin' that! And honestly, I wanted it to have a bit more of the 'Gunship' feel, and that seemed like the only natural evolution to the design. The Python is heavily used and just so beefed in the game, it has the hull and shields to engage anything, and the agility and speed to just chase around out of the line of fire, it's insane.

I also like this idea, a true long range gunship, armed to the teeth, imagine a wing of them out for blood, no where it can't reach, and in wings with skilled pilots enough firepower to almost take on almost anything. I like the thought of it just being called Diamondback Gunship, have the Scout, Explorer, and Gunship fits the line. I think the medium pad is ok too, a good Python rival.

Yeah.~ That's the idea. A long range, superiority Gunship, not a 'Heavy Fighter' or 'Interceptor', with hardpoints dedicated to it's true role and some internals to mod with if desired, 6 slots max? I know the Python has 9 total. I think the shields for it should be about 190, enough to take some hits, but with a top stock speed of around 245m/s? That's slightly slower then the Explorer.

I think that would work well, and add a military slot and were golden, supplement sheilds with armor. 6 slots should be enough to outfit it for long duration, I'd want to be able to fit a class 6 FSD as well for added range, I could see this being a heck of a bird, built for war and deep space.

I'd rather they came up with a whole new design based of the looks off the Taipan. Something to compete with the FGS.

That's a grand idea, a Class 6 Framer and a military slot would really evolutionalize the design to it's rightful role. Mainly, this is a 'Team' design, Pilot and Gunner, but with most of the ships in this game there isn't really a need for a 'Gunner' role.

An enlarged Taipan would be really kickass actually, I love the 'wing effects' that thing has.~ The style is just so unique and crazy too.
