diamondback scout or cobra mk III for bounties?

I've equipped a Diamondback Scout - its very nimble and packs a reasonable punch. Its a lot smaller than the Cobra and presents much less of a target. Its got more Utility slots than the CObra so you can pack a KWS without much loss of shield booster potential.

I haven't had a chance to use it much yet (RES, CZ or PvP). AVG borked my PC last night (corrupt file won't let Win7 boot).

I'm hoping the DBS is fun to use in PvP with a low re-buy cost - will be interesting to see how it stacks up against a Viper!

You would honestly be better with a viper than a cobra for combat, if you want to go that route. It is half the price of the cobra to buy, kit out and has better shields. Out of the two that you suggested, the diamondback is probably slightly better for combat.

have the cobra already was just wondering if it was worth it to trade it out for the diamondback scout

It's less well-rounded for your alldayerryday needs than the Cobra, but it's got the edge for combat like has been mentioned. Super optimal hardpoint placement too. Plus it's really fun to fly in its own right. Between the two ships for BH I'd personally give it to the DBS.

I really didn't like my cobra for combat, hard point placement drove me nuts. Went back to a viper until I could afford a vulture. Been in that until 1.3 and scooped up a DB Scout to have as my "baby vulture" as I like to call it. I fly FA off 99% of the time now (the 1% is when I'm too lazy to line myself up for a jump into SC or another system) so I like to use my DB as a training ship, if you will. Packs some decent fire power, shields aren't great, but mobility outweighs the lack of shield strength for me. Absolutely love jumping on top of a ships blind spot and giving it my all to stick to that spot.

Overall I'd take the DB Scout over the Cobra.

I'd really like to get my hands on a Courier though...

Have used the Viper and the Asp for bounties and the Cobra is my top pick. The Viper has poor shielding and the Asp costs 35M cr to outfit to Level A. I've outfitted by Cobra to Level A, have Lvl 1 Mulit-cannons on the bottom and Lvl 2 Turretted Beams on the Top and have amassed 10M in bounties at RES and Navs. I have taken out a Courier (one on one) and the new Diamondback. I still prefer the Cobra.

I'm using the DBS for killing, with twin beams and twin cannons.
It is an evil little monster.
And it can travel !!!

I also have the DBE for fast courier missions and reinforce missions in PP. Twin pulse and one mega cannon.

My Python is feeling a little left out at the moment ;)

So to answer the question that was actually asked rather than 'secret more expensive option number 3 which is my preference'...

Either is a fine option, but if you really aren't going to be cargo hauling then you may as well go the DBS route. It's got the same hard points while at the same time being smaller and more nimble. If you want the option to occasionally haul some corn around, go for the Cobra, they'll do fine :)

For combat, it's rather simple at the sub-million end of the scale: Sidewinder < Eagle < Cobra < Viper < Diamondback Scout (not sure whether the Adder is above or below the Sidewinder, but in any case don't use it as a fighter). The latter has speed comparable to a Cobra, agility better than both Cobra and Viper, better shield potential than both (with 2x A grade shield boosters, a Scout has stronger shields than a Viper without shield boosters), and the best of both worlds for hardpoint placement: all close together for fixed weapons, nothing below the hull or otherwise obscured to hinder gimballed weapons.

For anyone who wants a pure combat ship, I'd advise to save up for a Diamondback Scout directly, and skip the Cobra or Viper.
