Diamondback Scout or Explorer as a good combat & multirole ship for Empire missions ?

So ive got a highly geared T7 for trading, with which Im doing rather decent right now. Ive got around 13 mil, so was wondering if I should get back to a Vulture or go for Diamondback Explorer or Scout for combat assassination missions, Pirate hunting and goods hauling missions to help raise rank with Empire ASAP ? my goal is to get Baron Rank ASAP so I can buy a clipper with which getting to the Python is alot easier.

Thx.

save the vulture for later.. i did, and im loving it. i bought my vulture after i bought my anaconda, and than its a releaf to fly something agile again :p

i would go for a cobra, and keep the T7 for the moment.

Get a scout! The DBx is absolute junk! get a scout and re enforce the armor, put lasers in the nose, and multi cannons on the sides, or experiment. Hell. some guys use railguns. Up the shield rating, and don't worry about boosters, just use chaff and hit silent running. Just be sure to equip at least one heat sink. Stay away from the DBx, trust me on this one. Ive had just about every ship in the game. http://coriolis.io/outfit/diamondbac...4Rg8O6CYwMxA==

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat !? The Scout is a lightweight ship ! it's around the same class as eagles & vipers etc. A single fart from a Python or FDL will reduce it to dust lol.

Aye, but the DB Scout is so maneuverable, you just stay right behind the engine nacelles! It's like having infinite shields! But, you gotta stay away from wings :(

Vulture without a doubt.
Scout is too light, and I disliked the flight behavior of the explorer.

Well in fact I'm a Cobra MK III fan boy...

Would you have the rank for the Emperial Courrier?
I didn't had the chance to try it yet, but it looks to be a very nice ship, specially regarding shields

The Vulture is pewpew easy mode. Slow, only two hardpoints but it feels like a flying Terminator. Love it!
DBS is a very neat little ship too. Very easy to fly. I usually don't like multi purpose ships but the Scout is a fine boat indeed.

I just tried DBS yesterday and I was surprise how actually fun flying on it with 4 multi-canons setup ) Really good little ship.

I've a trader Anaconda, and when I feel the need for some speed I grab a DBS + 4 multicannons and I personally found it very fun. It's like a light and fast motorbike through the traffic jam!

...and if you add silent running :D

Not necessarily so but, if you've included the DBS in your choices....go for the Courier, the shields are immense, it's fast, agile and a small target.

I love the DBS, but the Courier is a close 2nd.

An alternative for the DBx...Cobra. Cap the thrusters...keep one eye on your mass, she's more agile than you may think but make sure you put lasers on your outer hardpoints; they're the weak point of the placements, made worse by putting kinetics there. Lasers don't need to lead as much as kinetics, so you'll get more uptime on your fire.

This. All multi is great. Not for farming but I do assignation missions.

Light weight yes but with armour punches well above. Had a vulture ram me to get me to leave his res. His shields dropped first. I use two banks of scb and hs and silent if loose shields. Its fast and agile. Drop scb for cargo mission dependent.

Yes its a lightweight ship, midrange at best. So...? You want a multirole ship, that's it. Don't believe me? Ok, go out and rig up a DBx and take it to the nearest combat zone and have fun, then take the scout. Vultures a combat ship, not multirole. The explorer is death, you climb in that your going to die. Someone will shoot you to pieces.

I killed a CMDR in an ASP with a DBS. I used 2x C2 Imperial Hammers (Rails Guns) and 2x C1 Rail Guns. I kinda was out for blood ^_^! The DBS is a nice little ship if you are not ready to jump to a Vulture.

They are different types of ships. DBS is the Lakon's Cobra (they are very very similar in specs). Multirole, fast (~400 in boost), stealth-fit cappable, handy for summugling and salvaging missions. Vulture is a mass production combat ship. Cheap and strong. An armoured cockroach :)

I too am interested in the DBS - on paper it looks like a good ship for the cost.

Couple of questions though - I have a viper which I fly when I want to have a bit of fun - is the DBS comparable or better than the Viper as a combat ship which is how it would be used.

Also it has a good jump range - could it be used for exploration?

Well they are differents, compare and judge yorself :)

I love the shape of Viper but I think DBS is better and funnier :). If you want exploration try DBE : you could reach 30Ly per jump easily (maxed 34Ly or so)

(The loadouts used are two fast loadouts I made in a while, just for have a quick comparision.)

Thanks for the direct comparison - It looks like the DBS is the better fighter, more armor, more shields, more manoeuvrable. I'm guessing these setups are pretty much maxed out?

Also - one question on the DPS - is that damage per second? If so should it not be even as they have the same loadout (2 small, 2 medium) options?

It all comes down to feel and preference but I think I might sink a few mill CRs into a DBL and have some fun :)

I absolutely love the DBS as a Powerplay ship for merit farming. Large jump range is great for getting to and from areas that need undermining. High DPS (i use class1 beam, class1 pulse and 2 class 2 gimballed multi-cannons) is good for shredding the merit farming targets (transports, vipers, other DB's, ect.). Also does well in PvP, outstanding maneuverability and enough utility slots to be able to double chaff with a couple shield boosters or run as a stealth ship with heat sinks. I feel comfortable challenging up to a Clipper in it. Obviously pilot skill changes everything on either side but with enough practice they can challenge much more popular combat ships.
