Diamondback Scout Ship Kit!

I reckon I'm going to post one of these each time FD accidentally release livery stuff for the other ships. This week, they mistakenly prettied up the paper-canopied-three-smalls-don't-make-a-right Alliance Chieftain, a ship that I think everyone can agree didn't live up to expectations. This is because it is not the Diamondback Scout. So, instead of doing pointless stuff like making the game better, I humbly suggest that FD do something that truly matters - releasing paint jobs and ship kits for me and the other pilot who fly the DBS to spend about ten quid on. Cheers!

Can I also ask that those cool skins for the Clipper be released for other ships? in fact all of them, they are cooooool!

I am now considering doing Imp rank just to get a Clipper and purchase them.

Plus those Icarus Corvette skins, Anaconda version please, or even Cobra MKIII ones?

You mean the Cutter .... the Cutter has 12 paint jobs, the Clipper a mere 4 ... and has not had any Christmas specials either.

The DBScout is slated for a revamp, so maybe they will celebrate with new paint jobs once players will want to fly it.

Would the DBS ship kit fix the fact that it has weak acceleration, is too drifty, and bleeds speed like a sieve, and hence it's way too slow to out run at least 4 highly popular medium ships that can shred it to pieces? No? Okay. No sale.

They made the right choice focusing on the Chieftain. No one flies the DBS anymore and for good reason. Even with a paper canopy, the Chieftain is far more functional than the problematic DBS. I agree though, the Chief canopy does need a recall.

I think the Chieftain is terrific.

I've also just moved my DBS to my "scrap yard" station in Tionisla.

That is all. Carry on.

What's wrong with the DBS?

I earned my first millions doing bounty hunting in one of those.
Still got her tucked away somewhere.

Maybe season 2 of my adventures will star the DBS... Assuming anyone watches season 1.
Also assuming I don't get bored of filming and editing by then. :D

While I would never turn down a buff to the DBS, it's not weak by any means. It did miss out on enhanced drives, but it's still very quick and has plenty of survivability. Its big issue is how easily pack hounds will shoot its hardpoints off, as it doesn't have enough internal space for both hrps and mrps. You sort of have to choose between a hull made of solid iron, or modules that don't melt when a railgun sneezes at them.

Put main and tail rotors on it and gigantic speakers blaring Ride of the Valkyries, and I'm in.

Oh wait, I meant the Diamondback Explorer.

Poor little DBS, it's the puppy everyone loves to kick.

I wasn't aware the DBS had fallen so far out of favor. But then, I don't keep up with a lot of the PVP stuff. Interesting.

As for the Chieftains canopy, I guess some one is going to need to make a video (maybe I'll do it with a friend) of letting someone shoot the canopy with a single shot from a small or medium railgun, PA, etc. on a Chieftain, FAS, DBS, DBX, AspX, Clipper and record the damage. Of course, that will only show if there is a problem with the amount of HP/integrity the canopy has if the Chieftain's damages easier... that won't do anything to prove a problem with the hit box being too big (if it is). Sadly, I'm not that great at methodological testing.

From a pure logical/artistic standpoint, I can say that all those people that say the Chieftain's canopy SHOULD be weak because it's a Lakon "bubble" canopy are wrong. The canopy on the Chieftain does NOT stick out as much as the ones on the DBS, DBX, Asp Scout, and AspX; also, it is only "exposed" on the top half vs. the full bubble on those others. So it definitely shouldn't be that weak. It also shouldn't be as easy to hit as the ones on the DBS and DBX - there is more front surface area that is non-canopy on the Chieftain than there is on those two ships.

Sigh. Hopefully someone can prove it needs a buff and the devs will fix it. I may give it a try, but I'm no Kornelius Briedis...

To be fair, mine is more like an angry wolverine than a puppy.

I don’t know. My fragtastic silent running DBS has given people a fright? It’s pretty sneaky and hard to hit. I just have no idea where said kit would go? How do you apply a ship kit to a catydid?

Typical combat build boost speed is ~580, but with the massive bleed, this is closer to an average 540-550. Which means it can easily be caught by a: Chieftain, FDL, FAS, Clipper, Vulture. And when that happens, it's game over. Having your guns shot out in one direct hit is just a formality at that point.

As for it's stealth abilities, they can be defeated by a single hit with an EM equipped MC.

I have no idea what you are on about ziljan. My DBS has hit 1% hull and the canopy hasn’t even gone. I can’t sneeze in a chieftain without the canopy cracking and I’m pretty sure my silent DBS would give a much larger target chieftain a solid fright.

Also you have to actually kill me to stop me. All I have to do is take your canopy out. ;) Good luck. It’s real easy to claim this on the forums m8. Bit harder in actuality.

My canopy comments were about the Chieftain... which will likely be fixed at some point soon. In any case a chief doesn't need a canopy to destroy a simple drifty DBS. Assuming you or your weapons survived long enough to drop the shields on a Chieftain.

If you'd like to test this out in game, I'm up for it whenever. I feel bad for the DBS. If you can show me how it's done, I'd honestly appreciate a demonstration :)

I don't interact with other players that much in Open. That being said, one of the two times I've been interdicted (by complete surprise) was in Shinrarta (heading from Lori's base) in my Clipper and being pulled down by what appeared to be a Silent Running DBS build. He even had the script ready for demanding my cargo.

I didn't read it though. I just laughed and BOOSTED away. My clipper back then would boost around 550 (now 623). I left him the dust. I kept thinking - Why would you even think it was a good idea to interdict me?

I'm sure if I had tried to fight him, it would've been difficult. He probably even had a good chance of winning. However, I was in my "Leave me alone, I'm busy" ship and left him in my dust. lol

Only other surprise interdiction was again near Lori's base. That time I was in my anti-Thargoid Anaconda (looking to reduce sensor weight) and got pulled down by a Corvette just looking to be a murder hobo (no comms, just start blasting). In that case, I MENU logged (not combat logged) as I had no chance of winning and little chance of escaping (reactions slow as I was playing while sick). Zero guilt about that - I wasn't about to lose my valued SLF pilot in a ship that couldn't fight back.

I haven't played much in Open since as that irritated me. Also, tired of running into the problem (even in Mobius) of going to heavy traffic stations, requesting a landing, and then finding an NPC Beluga sitting on my pad. *grumble*

To the Devs: "Your Honors, I would like to cite this as further evidence that the Chieftain's canopy needs fixing." :D
