Diamondback Scout?

So I've been planet surfing in one of these little babies. It's a lot of fun and handles really well skimming the surface. The only draw back so far has been cargo size. Right now I have max cargo at 8. Does anyone know if I can put in more than that?

Here is what I have now. Can I put a 16 cargo in the spot that has 8? Is it just a matter of finding someone that sells it or is my load out maxed. I not giving up shields. I can dump the basic discovery scanner for 2 more cargo.

You could swap the C3 shield generator for a class 2 and put a class 3 cargo rack in its place.

The DBS isn't, currently, designed for planetside work, which is a shame as it's one of my favourite ships. An Asp Scout or a Viper Mk. IV would suit your needs better.

Personally, I wouldn't lose the disco scanner. Indeed, I'd upgrade it to an advanced discovery scanner. Planetside bases in systems you have no/partial data on don't show up until you do the honk.

If you are to get rid of the scanner, put the SRV hangar where the discovery scanner is and you will be able to add another 8 cargo slots there instead.

The DBS would be pretty potent in doing strike runs on med security outposts and the such

not to mention the VTOL Pelican drop ship style it has going on. Imagine a wing of em lighting up a military or pirate outpost from the air, setting down after the major defenses are wiped and then deploying a squad of SRVs a-la Halo Wars style.

Great suggestions, thank you.

I might try a cobra next. I'm not looking for a trader as I have my Python for that. I do have an Asp Explorer that I keep meaning to go and get. It's only about 90ls away. It's the same maneuverability as the python tho so I'm not sure how it will do, other than I can take out cargo spots and put in hangers. Keeping it more for ground missions and my python for trading.

I hope they release some nice ships more suited for ground next time round. The Diamondback could be one of them, if it just had more cargo.

I have 2 size 8 cargo slots on my DBS. Just get rid of the discovery scanner and move the planetary vehicle hangar to the Size 2 internal slot. No need to lose anything bar the scanner.....works great for me. No way I would ever sell my DBS.....its my favourite ship bar none. :)

Until you take a mission to deliver something planestide in a system you have no or partial data on.

I love the DBS, but it is limited.

You could always get rid of your shields, the scout don't really need any shields at all.

After watching your combat video's, I believe you that the Diamondback doesn't need shield, but maybe an really good life support just in case ;).

Nice job on those by the way!

I love the DBS, it's the only ship I fly any more.

However, as mentioned above it is very limited. It is a great small-scale smuggler, the best small fighter in the game, and maybe an OK short range explorer, but not really good at anything else.

As mentioned above I'd loose the disco scanner and move the hanger bay into that slot - you then have space for an extra 8 tonne cargo rack.

If you are doing lots of surface flying I'd keep the shields....not all of us can fly like Jesse :) One bad landing and you'll be heading back to station for repairs...or worse.

The DBS is a great ship but limited in terms of options. I'd say the Cobra Mk III is a good ship for surface flying and is very fast and versatile with a good jump range and cargo space for smuggling missions.

This is the best advice in the whole thread. Even though I like my Scout a lot, I don't really do exploration on the surface so I might not have the best advice.

I do ALOT of PvP in my dbs. Even though I have an anaconda a corvette and a fdl. the scout is just easier to beat other players with. I keep a weak shield(A3 or c3 bi weave) 2 heat sinks a chaff and a kws . I run 4 multicannons. I can kill everything with it but it lacks firepower and cargo So you have to use something else if you want to kill fast or carry cargo.

So the DBS is a lot of fun as a fighter, Not a large score but one of my bigger bounties, but a blast to fly.

As for planet landings, I've added 2 hangers now on my Asp Explorer. It's great for landing on the surface, the front cockpit has an amazing field of view for scouting the ground before landing.

Just bought a Diamondback Scout with a view to going on a shortish (1000-2000ly) jaunt. Was off work ill yesterday and upon finding a good rare goods route went from 700,000 cr to 3,200,000 cr by first thing this morning.
So I bought the scout ("Bugman", after the Blur song) thinking I'd have enough dosh to kit it out as I wanted...
Big lol. Top class scanner is a million and a half alone!

So, Scout owners - recommend me an exploring setup for a scout...

Asp Scout a bit pricey for me right now tbh, I haven't even got the cash for the basic ship let alone kitting it out!
