Diamondback==Thargoids ????

They could include a few Thargoid scout ships or convoys in 1.3. It wouldn't have to be space stations or new home worlds. Or even a full blown AI faction. But really, how hard would that be to add? It's just a few extra 3-D models and planetary textures. It's not like they have to meet the standard of player flyable ships with fully realized cockpits, customizable load outs, etc. Not yet ;)

When you go backyard exploring there are all kinds of Signal Sources which I don't dare venture into in my defenseless Asp. The Asp also doesn't handle like a fighter, so even with guns equipped I'm not so sure.

If this Diamondback has fighter capabilities I might take it for a spin just to check out the SS's a couple of 100 Lys away and catch me some Thargoids spying on humanity.

Yeh. And I'd also like FD to then make the old badlands 500ly stretch come back, with Reaver-esque npcs (with obligatory fuel scoop for the immersion demands). Then bump up the spawn rates in certain regions significantly. Then add missions to seek and destroy in those regions, specifically offered in border systems.

If they made that so, it'd give bounty hunters another way to play entirely.

And what if painite and osmium could be found only in asteroid belts outside of inhabited space?
What if pirates would be greatly interested about it, but not about mining (even though mining will get some love with the collector / prospector drones)?
If so, wouldn't the miners need a ship with enough slots to equip the drone controllers, great jump range to reach these asteroid belts, and great firepower to deal with pirates?

Some great ideas and speculation in here. I especially like Ydiss's 'badlands/reaver-type NPC' idea. I have only made a short hop exploration wise, out to Barnard's and back, but I kept my multirole load out for the trip, so I did hit a few signal sources out there. No aliens, just some weird NPC interactions.

I have and idea for the Diamondback too, but its out of completely different book than most of these. Take a look at the scouting idea in my sig.
 
Hey hey, actually the Diamondback might be used for a future CG linked to unknown alien lifeform:
- From Galnet https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/galnet/uid/32edcb230646f31c35f0edc87880b5f692f33452
- Anti-Federation Terrorists impacting the CG in 78 Ursae Majoris, protesting about the Unknown Artefact thingy
- This is precisely there that the diamondback should be produced, if the CG is a success

I could see indeed the diamondback be used in a CG to retrieve some artifacts of some kind in a dangerous remote system...not telling that Thargoids would join the party, but most likely pirates (NPCs and commanders, as usual).

Personally - I'd go for a refinery ship in the game. You could be a local source for offloading the ore that is refined and sold on the market. Hell of an investment of course but you'd take a cut of all the sales.
 
Personally I dont think the Thargoids will ever be announced, or at least I hope. I want them to appear randomly after a specific event. Obviously they are not here at the moment, so each upgrade and DLC will have the potential to introduce Thargoids. It cant be that difficult, just a very aggressive AI.
