Did 2.2 actually go through a beta?

Is it just me being randomly insta-exploded almost every time I take a (non-criminal) passenger to a station??

Is it just me that regularly cannot land my Beluga on a landing pad?

Is it just me that, on the very rare occasion I can actually land, cannot get the passenger off my ship? Despite switching modes, re-landing, restarting etc - they just wont leave!!! They even had the cheek to offer me a bonus to get to the destination more quickly when I was already landed there spamming the Passenger Lounge in the vain hope I could actually hand in the mission I'd spent half the night travelling for.

Is it just me that, every time I die, then has a bunch of empty cabins but a load of live missions - which need to be abandoned - smashing my rep with the local factions and triggering lots of messages to drop off non existent people at the next place I dock (when I'm already docked!!!!)

This buggy mess has cost me millions and left me stupidly frustrated. In insurance alone, I've spent over 16 million today - that's more than I've earned in weeks.

So, to the point of this thread... Who tested this? Was it like this in Beta? Why was it ever released to us, the unsuspecting public, in this horrible horrible state??

***Rant over***

Unfortunately some things you can't catch during a Beta because they only occur when the update hits the live servers. There's no way to preempt some of those bugs. Also a factor is how many Beta testers there actually were and how many of them were actively looking for and reporting bugs as apposed to just having a bunch of players who maybe treated the beta like early access to 2.2 and were just there to only have funs and giggles with the new stuff before it gets nerfed/buffed/erased.

If you took some time to analyse what happened you might find you could avoid some of those problems.

The beluga's docking position is not naturally easy to find, but once you know where it is, not that hard, practice on a planet.

Havnt had the bug where you can't turn them in. So far Ive earnt 50 mill from passenger missions, in about 3 days, so not sure on that.

Never take criminal passengers on a beluga. Just take the rep hit and abandon them.

I've encountered a glitch, after respawn, where the mission is still active but your cabins are actually empty. You died anyway, so there is no avoiding the reputation loss.

Just like normal mission you have to be very careful to not overstack your ship. Using the beluga, I've noticed myself trying to fill the ship to capacity, without taking care to the quality of missions I'm taking. Alot of passengers just arnt worth it.

The two best types if missions are the 2-3 stop sightseeing missions paying around 5-8 million.

And the transport VIP missions between 800k and 1.5 million.

I'm trying to figure how and where those 80 million missions to sag a are spawning. So far Ive only seen one at an allied faction. It was a refinery in dumata.

From what I see posted, the anaconda would be better suited for the long hauls to the centre.

Everything you describe was indeed bug-reported in the beta. FD just decided to launch with unfixed bugs, such as the missing Clipper vibrant paint jobs. Hopefully they will be fixed over the next few weeks.

Re Beluga not docking, it's because the HUD is misaligned, so you are much more nose down than you think. Check your pitch in the external camera and you'll see. Just bring the nose up a lot and she'll dock every time. The same issue caused me trouble leaving through the mail slot until I learned to compensate.

The rest of your points are a valid concern. This particular bit however is Pilot Error.

They won't debark until you turn in the mission and in some causes they won't allow you to do so unless you have room for the non-cash rewards.

Meaning you cargo hold, Materials, or Data storage is full and the turn in won't show up until you make room for the reward.

I'm seriously considering dumping my entire hold of Engineers materials just so I can do these missions.

When you can't land the beluga you are probably not even enough, can happen very easy. Point the nose more up and it should work, hes very, very long so not being even enough will be problem when landing.

When you can't hand in a mission check the mission reward, if there is for example a data reward and your data storage is full then you can't hand in the mission.

Seven versions of beta were run. It's still no good until it goes live. Then, the general population finds everything that is wrong.

Do you have cargo space? Some missions pay cargo as part of the reward and if you don't have the space, you can't have the cargo and the passengers won't get off.

I strongly disagree that these bugs are difficult to spot in Beta testing. Actually it's worse than that. Some of the ones I've spotted should have been picked up in unit testing inside the FDev shop itself. I estimate from the poor quality control of this release that FDev have very little in the way of a testing regime. I don't think they need too much bashing for it though because I'm guessing they are pretty embarrassed about it.

It's always like this, the betas are little beyond an extra source of revenue from the whales. (Charging for beta access, HAH)
It doesn't matter what issues do or don't get spotted, it'll be launched in whatever state it's in come launch time, under the mentality of "ship it now, patch it later" that they've had since say 1.

Yes, I'm afraid some of the bugs I saw in both the 2.1 and 2.2 betas really shouldn't have got out the door, and made it embarrassingly clear that some of the devs don't test their own code before pushing it. As for unit testing, I'd be very surprised it that was part of the culture. In my experience the games dev industry is very behind in that sort of thing.

FD does not really do beta testing. The don't even really balance the content. They give us whatever they planned on developing and if enough players report enough game-breaking bugs during the "beta" there's a possibility that they might fix something prior to release.

If we learned anything from the mess we got with 2.1 it's that FD just doesn't beta test their content in any meaningful way. They expect the player base to do this for them over the first 1-2 months after any given expansion is launched, and even then it often doesn't reach a properly balanced and playable state.

So far, I've just had this one passenger mission I couldn't turn in, even though I was at the right place. Got randomly disconnected once on the way there. Don't know whether that had anything to do with it. Worse than not getting paid was flying the entire 100 ls there for nothing, plus the additional insult of being told "If you're not taking me where I need to go, drop me off at the nerest station". You're there! For free now! Sod off!

Are you sure you could claim all rewards (cargo/data/mats)?

Yes, it went through beta. Sadly several of the bugs I reported through the process were not fixed. I know it's complicated, and there are deadlines, and we all want the best, but Frontier do have a spectacular way of not fixing so many things ... and of introducing new issues through the process, and then even more for when they go live. Sad face.

Why force us to play Passengers that are broken by nerfing all Mission & Long Range Trade Payouts? This is so wrong. So in effect we are further being forced to TEST Passengers in Release by force of nerfs.
