Did anyone else see the VR panel @Lavecon?

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/154276774 starts @51mins

well I just watched the VR panel
from lavecon and it seemed a bit of a hatchet job tbh, knowing what i do about VR going back to the DK1/2 and having tried all the main units inc PSVR there seemed some rather heavy bias towards oculus also a fair amount of misinformation too one example was the deluxe head strap is £100 not £200 as stated,
Also the piece at the end about the knuckles controllers seems very misinformed no mention of 5 finger tracking etc http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=953648265

some of the oculus points were fair, but not one plus point for the vive was mentioned.. no walled apple-like garden, better tool presence with the controllers, extra FOV (with 6mm mod) esp vertical helps with immersion, better brightness/colour deeper blacks, far less pupil swim, it already has a wireless option, reduced god rays especially important in games like ED, more comfortable for bigger heads and most of all the superior tracking which has a larger tracking area and was designed for room scale from the ground up.

I expected some bias (we all do it) but this one man panel was really disappointing and factually incorrect in parts if I'd had been there I would of had to say something to correct the mistakes..

Otherwise thanks to the guys @lave Radio for all the coverage of Lave Con guys its been really good so far,

sorry for the rant but it saddens me when i see this sort of VR coverage.

Edit: Btw I'm not trying to bash the rift I think its great piece of kit and you cant really go wrong with either headset,
Also I do agree the cheaper rift without touch is the probably the right choice for ED/flight sims/racing games, but as soon as you start talking 360 deg and room scale I'd take the Vive.

I'll be honest. A lot of that just seems to be your Vive bias. Reduced god rays for example - really? Many say the Vives 'God Rings' are far worse than the CV1's god rays. Superior tracking? This is Elite, both HMDs work equally as well for seated games. Kunckles controller and 5 finger tracking - when it comes to Elite who gives a fig, it doesn't even factor into the game, why mention it.

You are not correcting mistakes, but simply voicing your own opinion.

The new knuckes controllers do look cool, tho I struggle to see how any motion control is going to work in elite.

dont get me wrong..... I think about the possibility of say, a loader like in aliens or perhaps a mech of some description as an alt to the SRV and i think it would be a fab fit for elite... but how will that work in VR if we are in our flight seat using a hotas and then swap out to something needing the touch / wands / knuckles.

I love my rift and when it is working find the tracking in any practical sense in a normal sized room on a par with vive... but, the vive still wins for me here however as i do keep getting the odd issues due to my usb being overloaded.

its fine if i get rid of my extension cables (they are repeater ones and reccomended on the oculus forum) but then the cables are not long enough.

For me this generation, taking into account the full package and cost the rift edges it over all *just* and for ED and other cockpit games its probably a slam dunk.... but, the VIVe does have a few clear advantages in some areas imo.

Yeah

It sounds like they were just trying to promote VR. Lavecon is heavy on Elite.

For Elite and Elite only, why would you want to pay the extra £250 for the Vive, if they both do ED equally well with balanced Pros and Cons even before the price?

At the end of the day I would like more people to embrace VR, on any platform, because that will mean win win for me.

I was thinking about making straps for my touch controllers but then I remembered that I like to have a few beers when playing so that would be a kinda annoying problem for me. Other than that problem, the new knuckle controllers looks pretty good!

I agree other than the horrid touch pads instead of analog sticks (again). Big mistake imo.

Ultimately the touch pads on the Vive wands were what made me cancel my Vive pre-order.
