Did anything ever come of "project mercury" trying to establish communications with the Thargoids

I dont know if you remember this, but around november 3303 CMDR Heisenberg6626 initiated "project mercury" which was an attempt to communicate with thargoids using a reverse engineered thargoid sensor (formerly known as unknown artefact) and communicate with the thargoids by playing a specially encoded sound that drew a silhouette of a thargoid "flowership" which we now call a cyclops interceptor.

And by 3303's december the threads were forgotten about, especially once the fall of the oracle happened. So I was wondering, eight months further on, is anything else happening with this brilliant idea?

As you certainly are aware of, that was purely RP, and such remained in the last 8 months. To date, there's no way to communicate with the Thargoids nor any other meaningful way to interact that doesn't include firing guardian stuff at them, besides gifting them with MA or offering slaves up for sacrifice, so I think it's safe to say the attempt had no effect over the "story".

If anything, the fact that FDev accepted a player-submitted CGs that talks about research on communicating with the thargoids implies that it does not conflict anyhow with the main plot which, most likely, contains nothing about this. But hopefully I'll be proved wrong ;-)

Individual, direct comms with aliens is HIGHLY unlikely.

We'll read about such things in GALNET if the past is any indicator of the future.
