Did I get lucky?

So, I've been playing for about 3 or 4 days now and have built up around 30k credits (plus upgraded several components of my Eagle).

I'm having a little jaunt in space and I come across 4 cannisters of platinum. I hadn't ever used the scoope until now so I scoop them up; then realise they are classed as stolen. What to do? Well, I decided to try to find a black market to sell them in. I make it into the station but there's no black market so I leave. Approximately 10 feet outside of the station I get scanned so I boost and try to do a runner. A warning of a fine of 75,000 credit flashes up in the corner of my eye

Panicking, I jump to another system and then another one and end up in LT 15449 (Reilly Dock) and see a black market that I sell the platinum in. I check for fines and there's nothing there. I'm not showing as wanted or anything.

I'm not sure what system I was in when I got the fine but it would be within a couple of jumps away. Are fines limited to individual systems or by faction or something. Reilly is Federation so I may have been in an independant system.

Or did I somehow get lucky ...

Nice find, I've yet to find any platinum lying around. Bounties are only active in systems that are under jurisdiction of the bounty issuer. If you're in a system with a black market, it's probably independent or anarchic, meaning it doesn't care about bounties from other systems.

It sounds like you only got the fine in that system, however it will turn into a bounty after a day. A kill warrant scan of your ship would reveal that bounty to a hunter, but you wouldn't be visibly wanted in other systems by basic ship scan.

Fines are faction bound, so you still have it and it will turn into a bounty in 24 hours. Best stations for black markets are those small outside outposts, they are rarely guarded by patrol ships, but they also rarely have black market, but I am sure you can find one. Best way for the beginning is to settle in few systems and know them perfectly, it helps much to get around.

OK thanks, so I got a fine that cost me more than 3 days work for scooping up some cannisters floating in space; not sure I'm going to be able to pay that ... what happens then (to the fine that is)?

LT 15449 is definitely Federation though and Reilly Dock does have a black market.

Even more upsetting that I destroyed 2 cannisters trying to scoop them.

If you got the fine before the gamma update it might have been wiped.

I think in the transaction tab it tells you if you have any fines.

I got a 100k fine wiped.
