Newcomer / Intro Did I get scammed ? Unable to play the game I purchased

Hello everyone!

I feel completely helpless here so I ended up looking for a forum to tell my story - this kinda seems wierd and unreal. After all, these forums seem alive. Yet I don't think I ever had a "bad" steam purchase but I guess I might just have had one now?

I bought Elite Dangerous on Steam. I created an account on the frontier store as requested, which wanted an uncomfortably funny amount of personal Information from me like address and phone number an all that.

Back in the launcher: trying to login with the account I just created, I get a huge red box telling me to "Please purchase/redeem Elite Dangerous to continue".
I try to google the issue. Sadly all found workarounds seem to talk about options and buttons that don't exist. Restarting the launcher and steam didn't change anything.

I try to open a steam ticket about it - you can't. Steam doesn't seem to offer any support for this product.
I try to find a way to open a ticket on the page I created an account earlier. You can't either - it's an endless loop of knowledgebase questions. No support mail address nor a button to open a ticket is offered anywhere.

I can't help but feeling scammed here. Sadly I purchased this game more than 2 weeks ago on steam so I don't think I would be legible for a refund anymore either =(((

Does anybody happen to know any way out of this ?

It would be Frontier where Tech support comes in.
You can take a shortcut through the tech support site and go to the very bottom of this page and click "Submit ticket".

They'll be more than happy to help.
Edit: Do you know if you linked your Steam account to your Frontier account?
You can do that at https://customersupport.frontier.co...e-platform-on-which-you-play-Elite-Dangerous-

thanks so much for that link - I must have missed it time and time again.

While the user interfaces in the screenshots look different than the ones in your second link, I believe I did link my account. Searching around I never see a linked account or any mentioned of it though. I did everything the walkthrough for linking wants me to do though.

just to be sure that you did that - you must launch Elite from Steam, not standalone via the Launcher; i.e. click play in Steam, which in turn opens the launcher. The authentication scheme through Steam is different in some way to the standalone version, which is why the authentication fails if not launched from Steam, and you keep getting the "please redeem" message.

If you did do so, I have no other idea :).

I just checked; you should not have to log into the ED launcher if you launch via Steam and your accounts are correctly linked. I logged out of the launcher and got the Frontier login prompt, closed the launcher, re-launched via Steam and was logged in.

Bottom line: Make sure you launch via Steam.

Funny how there is the occasional person that finds these issues yet there are hundreds of thousands of us playing with no issues whatsoever. ¯\(ツ)

I had to log off the other day and way away for a bit. At that point I had not yet opened a ticket. When I returned the other day it suddenly worked. I was starting the game from steam every time, also the previous tries when I was told I would not own the game I purchased...

right now, I am able to start the game and play. I don't understand what happened and I kinda brace for it happening again any moment - but atleast I now know how to open a ticket.

Ok apparently the crash messed up the save so deleting my mcdr and creating a new fixed the problem.Cheers and have a nice day.
