Powerplay Did i misunderstand merits calculation ?

Hi there,

My understanding about merits was the following :
  • every new cycle starts on thursday morning
  • half previous week merits are carried over
  • new earned merits are added

But two days ago is discovered my merits droped to zero
Below is a dump from my Elite journal, i only kept the last entry before end of cycle and the first entry after new cycle began
Theorically, i can't start a new cycle with less than half my merits, the in fact i always loose more than half my merits
from april 27th to 28th : 52% decrease
from april 29th to may 5th (not logged in between these dates) : 54% decrease
from may 11th to may 12th : 56% decrease
from may 18th to may 19th : 78% decrease
from may 25th to may 26th : 100% decrease, they droped to zero...

so i don't understand if i have an issue or if i misenderstood the new cycle calculation of merits
if someone can explain...

I never knew this, it explain why my merits dropped to zero.
Thank you @Danieros for this crucial information.

Yes it has been 4 weeks since last merit were earned.
But the 50% decrease on each cycle still wrong and unexplained.

Each week's merits are considered separately - the merits you earn this week will be halved next week, halved again the week after, etc., then expire completely after four weeks. This means, assuming you gained merits over a series of weeks, there'll be one weekly "bucket" of leftover merits expiring completely each week instead of halving, as each bucket in turn hits the 4 week mark, so slightly more than half of your previous week's overall total will expire.

You're right, while i have some merits halved, some others expired and the total goes down by more than 50%
