Did prices get slashed after the last update?

The title is wrong. I should have said: Did profits get slashed?

I had a trade route with progenitor cells and Palladium. Both commodities earned me around 1200 credits per tonne.
Today I suddenly can get only 500 credits per tonne.

Is this a bug? Is this a universal thing, or only in the system where I am?

The fuel costs have been obliterated, but with these tiny profits trading suddenly has become very unattractive.
Is there a connection between the two?

It's no universal thing. My run with resonating seperators and gold has actually gone up by 200 Cr. And indeed, fuel costs have dropped to 1/9th. Not much use for fuel scoops anymore except for explorers. Quite a good thing actually.

They may have changed the system fluctuation on prices but that may be due to more NPC's so more potential change in unit amounts at stations as any one time.

I'm pretty sure they tweak things server side all the time. They just don't really tell us. I remember one time I was using the Galaxy map to search for systems with no system data but the view filter for that disappeared for a short while. Then all of a sudden I can view star types in the map.

I have come to just accept things are always changing.

Okay. That is good news. I will just have to relocate then and find a new route with better profits.

Yeah the fuel cost on my current route were 40.000 credits (Python) and now they are just over 300 credits. Personally I feel that is ridiculously low. I hope FD will find some middle road. Fuel cost should still be a factor. Currently they have become meaningless and that is not a good thing. Fuel could be made into a rich mechanic. They could introduce different fuel types like they had in Frontier Elite for example... or ad a tax mechanic: higher fuel tax for bigger ships.

Fuel should be a flat rate per ton. You don't see millionaires worrying about gas prices do you.

I agree with that, but as I said there could be other mechanics to regulate fuel prices.
Fuel prices should still be a factor I think. Currently they are meaningless, which is not good in a game like this.
Paying only 300 credits for two jumps of 20 ly total is ridiculous.
But don't get me wrong I do not want to get back to paying 40.000 credits as I did before. But I would not mind if it was between 10 and 15k. For a large ship like the Python that is no problem and it might still make using a fuel scope interesting for those who like that. Currently the fuel prices also kill off the general use of fuel scoops. It is not even something to be considered or discussed anymore. This is bad. It makes the game poorer.

But still econmy filter on galaxy map is usless i get -70000 on IM slaves where filter showed that should be good run :)

I can agree with that but I just think we have bigger wants and worries than implementing a fuel economy. Besides who said a fuel scoop wasn't primarily an explorer / rare trader device.

It should be the bigger the ship the bigger the Tank. The heavier the ship the more fuel is required to jump the same amount of distance as a lighter ship or something along those lines.

Seems to me that fuel costs have been nerfed to the point that they aren't a factor. Not sure that I think this is a good thing. I'm sure that there will be more tweaking of the system. I agree that price per ton should be stable and that useage should be calibrated to the fsd size.

Fuel prices now far too low in my opinion. I was paying about 8k on a round trip of 60ly in my T7 and that felt about right. Now it's meaningless.

I can see how fuel might be cheaper if you're allied with the dock or have a high rank in the faction controlling the system. Otherwise just put the price back.

I've seen some Python owners moaning about fuel prices but most accept that if you drive a tank you don't get good fuel economy.

My profit per tonne is unchanged, but since I can drop the fuel scoop and maybe even my shield it's actually looking like a new golden age for trading.

This ^^^
usage should be calibrated to the FSD size
