Did something happen on the servers since last night?

There has indeed been a change. Yesterday it wasn't Sunday and now it is.

Seriously, the servers have been total dog's eggs every Sunday for as long as I can remember.

Had no trouble connecting today, but when I landed at the station where the CG was, client crashed to desktop. Was in Mobius with a lot of commanders around.
Last night bounty hunting in a wing (the bounty hunting CG) and there were ghost ships (literally one of my wing mate's ship went partially transparent,) ships that blew up after a few shots and an instance that was empty of NPCs.

Personally I think FDs P2P architecture and using AWS for matching making, the Galaxy updates etc. Is really showing strains and I don't believe that it is capable of handling the kind of traffic it's experiencing now.

Not trying to be annoying either, but I'm also in the UK and the lag has been terrible. And not only since last night either, try the last couple of weeks although last night was particularly bad. And up until a few weeks ago, everything was running buttery smooth...now it's anything but. Starting to lose patience now.

Absolutely agree with this. I have top of the line 200MB net + Top rig (ignore sig) and the lag just recently is truly dreadful....ps in UK too

Oddly enough, I would confirm the exact same thing happened last night where the shaders started going through the slow update/loading routine. No changes on this end as regards drivers updated, so it was a rather odd thing to happen. While I have had random disconnects and bad lag, (And 2 in the morning is hardly UK peak time), last night was the first time I saw the shaders go through their loading slow routine. Almost as though something were added to the code that wasn't properly bug tested or something, I dunno.

Resetting the router makes absolutely no difference at all...that was one the first things I tried and that was last week. The random disconnects have gotten a little better, but the lag is constant and getting hard to play in now. Considering the amount of players complaining of similar issues, I'm loathe to put this down to the fault of the player. Whatever the problem is, I truly believe it's on FD end of things.

Resetting my router fixed my problem of all the progress appearing to have been reset...now everything is back to normal.

I usually don't experience lag either during loading or during the game.
Last night I had terrible lag during loading and because my rep was zeroed...I didn't bother trying to play.

Cheers

Glad to hear is working again. Obviously my thought that is was location related is bunk as lots of other UK players have issues as well.
As I note 'annoying' was mentioned a few times, I was just saying that to suggest my post was a 'subjective experience' information post, not a 'Nya Nya, Mines super' post.
PS. Still zero issues during all of the above. Maybe there are some duff nodes around and 'they' are having difficulties talking to the central server.

You see - the internet is a series of tubes....

Electronic tubes, but yes, I think that analogy fits. I've used it to explain networking bandwidth management to departments at work.
Odd that talking about water pressure, header tanks, taps, valves and bore sizes is easier for non techies to digest than simple Bytes/sec, switch/hub/routing explanations.
