Powerplay Did they seriously just fix the retributor and give it to an engineer?

I really wish that Frontier would think twice about the experience of a player spending almost an entire year pledged with a power that isn't fully implemented.

I get that their plans for the game include putting in a lot of placeholders here or there that don't stand up to close scrutiny, to be fixed at a later date. That is okayish with me.

But I really don't think they have an understanding what it means to be pledged to a power for 46 weeks and not only does the vaunted module that you waited for a month for do nothing (as opposed to other power's modules, it's not just unuseable, it has no effect at all,) no, all the other modifiers are also borked.

Now, people rightly say that it could be worse: At least Mahon gets you trade dividends, which is a nice thing to have. (I think those have been fixed for a couple of months now, so there is progress.)
But a year of false advertisement and placeholders have made some of us (read: me) all extremely cynical about Frontier's promises. I became extremely frustrated and quit power play, vowing to never touch it again. (And I wouldn't have before the Big Snipe of 04/16, so thanks, Feds!) So I guess you'd have to view our comments through that lens. Which is why I think that the placeholder thing does not work in Frontier's favour when it comes to power play. I really hope they rethought their strategy and put some finished code into the Engineers beta this time (which I take is the reason for the delay.)

Unfortunately I would not get your hopes up. If anything is done with the Alliance I think it will be years away and not on FDEV's current development plans. Mr Brooks clearly showed what he thinks about the Alliance on the stream, and whilst I assume he was being tongue in cheek, I think it does indicate what roll the Alliance plays in the Elite narrative from FDEV's point of view: A side show to add a little bit of flavour to the main political theme of the Federation vs the Empire. We are a side show act. The fact that Mahon is successful in Power Play (despite the sheer number of things in the PP setup that are stacked against him) is purely a player driven phenomenon. The Alliance is not supported by FDEV in any way as we are a bid of background colour only. I expect FDEV were surprised when Mahon started to do well and dominate the top of the leader board for so long. I expect they thought Mahon would be an 'also ran'.

I would be delighted if Michael or Sandro was to come here and tell me I am talking rubbish, however, I'm not going to hold my breath...

Well, that should make Mahon pretty easy to beat then right?

You have the brains of Mahon and the imperial muscle at your disposal. You should have an easy time removing the Fed Powers from the Galaxy map. I don't think we can ever beat you. You are so many and powerful. But you are still in week 3 of PP.

Well, now you have to explain what you mean by that. And keep it simple - remember, I'm a Mahon pledge, so I'm not too bright.

I meant you play smart and you have the grunts at your disposal. It's fun. It was a sincere congratulation, except for the part we're scared. It is definitely no longer so boring and repetitive as it was fighting the Empire. You have options and it's nice to anticipate them and try to counter and then try to take you by surprise. It's fun, really, congrats!!!

Wait, what? Week 3? I could have sworn we're in Week 47 or something.

I don't understand! :(
ever is just taunting that the first 44 weeks for Mahon don't count as Power Play because the Feds hadn't declared war on him yet. You know, attempting to minimize any accomplishments by implying Mahon hadn't faced resistance and didn't require a fully developed PP strategy. The kind of elementary school taunting that most adults have learned to laugh at or ignore. Belittling others' accomplishments to feel better about your own existence. Often a warning sign of an inferiority complex. Not in this particular case, of course. Just general behavioral observation.

Luckily, anyone that's been paying any attention at all for the last 47 weeks knows it's just nonsense. No need to take the bait and go further off topic. :)
