Did we just get conned?

Did we just get conned? If you pledged to Founders level, yes.

Look you got much more than premium beta access with your 150 gbp pledge no? So when converting to shop FD don't see a total of your pledge, they see only part of pledge which is for the copy of the game plus testing level.

It is how *everybody* got treated. Me, you, everyone in this thread. It has been explained numerous times. Your pledge level is NOT amount you paid for the game. You get other rewards too :)

I just don't see why many people seems to be against the idea for people who purchase the early beta access to get onboard on February as was estimated. Its not like its taking away anything from the people who are already onboard..

I pledged at DDF, I am all for people upgrading.. as multiplayer is coming to alpha it will give FD more feedback about networking etc...

... plus more people can experience it, good for the community.

They would have a lot more than 42k backers if it was priced better, being in the U.S I cant afford $330 for a game. Eagerly waiting to buy it as soon as its ready though.

Still too expensive for the dubious privilege of testing an incomplete software you've already pre-ordered.

Nobody here will appreciate me making this comparison but you can get the Star Citizen; Persistent Universe (including first-person-shooter/walking avatar mechanics - which will cost extra for ED), Squadron 42 Single-player Campaign and Alpha/Beta access (for over a year before release) for just US$40.

Good luck getting access to Alpha forum. I bought the Alpha, emailed support from inside game about alpha forum access and got a basic "sorry, not a bug with Alpha so bad luck". Emailed forum support and heard nothing. So having paid 200 bux for alpha access I still can't get access to Alpha forum. Joke is, having posted about 3D issues and having been told to post in proper channels (ie Alpha forum), I seem to be at a loss as to how to get access to proper channels.

Apologies if this sounds like a broken record, but:
have you sent an e-mail or a PM to Ashley Barley?

He's the Community Manager, and he got my account/forum access etc. problems all sorted out in a couple of days every time.

As above. I mailed Ashley who sorted the same issue out for me quickly. Probably worth mentioning also is that if you find any bugs you raise them as support tickets, not just forum post about them.

I'm sure we don't get paid any better than you do, despite the number being higher over your side of the pond the actual cost is the same to us.

And no, i can't afford it either, but that's just life, not everyone can afford everything sometimes you have to go with out, i chose to back the game at £85 and spent another £300 or so on a flight stick and some PC upgrades, the only reason i could do that was because i walked to work for a month and sold some of my saved up holidays back to the company.

You make choices in life about where you put your money, if you feel the price for alpha is to expensive then don't buy it, it's simple, it's value os what it's worth to YOU, not what anyone else tells you it is.

Absolutely spot on. But. Is a video game really worth the better part of a thousand pounds? Can it really live up to such vaunted expectation?

People buy £60000 cars when a £500 one will do the same job, the value is what you perceive it to be and how much enjoyment you will get from it combined with how much disposable income you have.

I deal with customers who have dogs worth more than my car, but to them it's still just pocket change.

When I signed up for Alpha I had two thoughts:
  1. They were being very optimistic about the length of time needed for alpha testing; or
  2. They were going to release a fairly complete game to see what parts need optimising before larger subsequent roll outs (the betas).
It seems that it was 1.

Those who were expecting Jan/Feb for beta: You will still get a beta just later than was estimated.

I don't think Beta signup should get access to v1.1 as they didn't pay for it. If you want to get access to the Alpha do what all the current Alpha members did: Pay the cost.

I don't see what the issue is.

Ah; you're employed... That may be the difference from some of us in the US. Incidentally; I'm retired, (not Unemployed).- Had no problem supporting E:D on the low end.

Part time, had to give up a good full time job due to ill health, I doubt anyone my age or younger will ever get to retire the way our government keeps pushing it back further and further.

I had a similar issue with forum access.

Ashley Barley sorted it out for me though and I totally understand the why the issue happens.

cant say i ever felt "conned" about it when the issue came to light. :S
