I'd heard of such tests but I was unaware they were called mirror tests. I understand that not a great many animals can pass them. Seems like I read a couple months ago that new research indicated crows or starlings (I can't recall of the top of my head for sure) had passed the bar for self-recognition.... I think researchers must be very careful when designing such tests.
