Did you see this? Star VR one - Hands on vid

210° Fov, no bad warping, and minimal SDE..
Sounds very promising(except the availability on launch).
I was surprised he was that enthusiastic, as the guy usually is very picky.

He's the reason I got a Lenovo Explorer. Good reviwer. What's the eventual price expected to be?

I expect more than 2000 Euros. Question is how much better than the Pimax and is it worth the extra money. Concern is no USB ports on the headset for further addons like leap motion or cams.

It's gonna be *very* expensive. We don't know yet. But it's focused for Enterprise, Commercial License, basically Arcades... But they will sell to anyone, if they can pay. :p
We'll know prices before december I'm sure.

look at those lenses...

Same reviewer has an update on the Pimax situation:

€2000 is about €2500 less than what they first said a few years ago, and since they are business oriented, that would also not include VAT.

I honestly have a very hard time seeing this becoming any form of large scale success unless the Pimax 8k completely flops as a near unusable device, and considering the Berlin demo that seems even more unlikely and it will certainly not be more expensive than a vive pro and include the full kit.

Sure it might have slightly more FOV but if it is going to 6-7x more expensive, I have a very hard time seeing how an arcade would say "hey I'd buy one of these, instead of six of those, even if we charge half as much for a session I could still make twice as much money"..

The 200 degree FOV was huge three years ago, now, the main difference for StarVR is they supposedly support a much larger area of play than valve's lighthouse system.

Then again how many here are capable of fully using that much ?

The two main benefits over the Pimax 5k/8k are integrated eye tracking with foveated rendering which can eliminate distortion with active correction software and boost performance,
and custom RGB strip Oled screens so great pixel fill, black levels, brightness, and contrast, is that worth 6-7x the cost? IMO probably not as a Pimax 8k backer, we are due to receive the eye tracking anyway (software dependent if it will have distortion correction/foveated rendering) and time will tell if I can live with the LCD screens on the 8k M2 (after using the vive for so long) I may switch to the 5k+ depending on reviews.

Exciting times for us VR enthusiasts :D

I would be surprised if they charge more than their equivalent pledge package plus 25%.

So if that, the 8k + controllers and lighthouses would be about $900.
Pricy yes. And time will tell if it's worth it.

I paid on the other about $650 in my pledge, but that was also with extra for the leap module, figured why not.
And if I can use that for some basic stuff, like for instance BigScreen.
Great for HOTAS use since I wouldn't need to find controllers to do desktop stuff etc.

Still compared to this the price difference would cover a monster PC.
Something like a 2080ti with an i7 9900k etc build.

This looks good. Eye tracking is essential for a natural experience, when you have an FOV this large.

Get this one with(fully working) inside out tracking and wireless connection and we have true VR.
