Die Freeloader!

.. is the battle cry before a fed ship fires on me *after* I kill a wanted ship.

No. I didn't shoot the fed ship.
No. I didn't ram or hit him or fly anywhere near him.
It was just me and the wanted ship dogfighting on our own.

Why do fed police ships keep attacking me after I take down a wanted?
(It's happened four times in a row now)

Kill Warrant Scanner.

Will make sure to everyone that you are hunting him down for whatever bounty he is wanted for.

Wanted is not across everywhere, can be local, across a sector, across a faction.

Or maybe the Fed ( it is always the feds ! ) was having a bad buggy day ;)

There is a known bug about this, Sandro talked about it in a thread earlier today, ie its an intermittent bug but they are trying to track it down.

If this happens Sandro says jump or super cruise or relog and you will be fine again with the law.

I do not have or even know what a Kill Warrant Scanner is.

It simply lists the ship as wanted when I target it.
Do I not shoot the wanted w/ orange target shrouds and only shoot the wanted w/ red target shrouds?

KWS is like a bounty hunter "license".

You target the supposed hunted, you scan him and proceed to hunt.

No harm done UNLESS he is under the protection of a faction/cartel etc which in turn might release a bounty on you.

Sometimes "wanted" is not that simple.

Sometimes the prey says it's wanted but it might not be in the current system so you trying to kill him is breaking the law.

A kill warrant scanner is an option from outfitting you run this and then you can legally kill the prey even if he not wanted in that system.

You should be able to. Falcon cry is wrong. Its a known bug they are trying to fix

Then explain to me how can I receive a bounty voucher from a target ( at a station belonging to a certain independent cartel ) and at the same time get a bounty on my head by the other Corporation ruling the system next to it, which is also under protection by the Federation, which also issues a bounty on me.

Basically he was wanted by faction A while belonging to faction B.

I will be praised by A and being hunted by B.

There are bugs in some situation but not ALL situations.

Gameplay is not flat. Thank the devs for that.

No. The KWS makes absolutely no difference to whether it is legal to open fire on him in this jurisdiction.

Your regular scanners show his local status, clean or wanted. If he's clean, it is a crime to open fire. Period. If he's locally wanted, he's got a local bounty and you can pop him and claim it but if he's got bounties anywhere else in the universe you can't claim those too.

The KWS shows you his bounties in other jurisdictions so that if you pop him you can claim them as well. that is ALL it does. Even if he has 10 million on his head three systems over, if he's clean here it is still a crime to shoot him here.

Hi, i suggest you to read the sidewinder pilots guide (available in these forums) as we all new pilots should do. This is perfectly explained there (the issue about shooting a wanted guy in a system where he is not actually wanted i.e.)

Edit: sorry, after rereading some of the posts and the one quoted above i have some doubts about this.
So, if the basic scanner says wanted it is related to the current system? Cause if it is so we should always be capable to try hunt them where we find them
