Newcomer / Intro Difference Between Flight Thrust and Flight Throttle in Controller Section

I just spent the better part of three hours building a controller profile for my X-55. Now I am assigning key bindings in the Controls section and I see there is a Flight Thrust setting that I mapped to my throttle X-axis for forward/backwards. But now I am also seeing a Flight Throttle choice. So I'm a little confused which of them to use. Did some hunting and searching for "the difference between Flight Thrust and Flight Throttle" but haven't found anything. Would appreciate any guidance folks can share...and apologies if it is something stupid-easy and I'm just not getting it.

Thanks,

Thanks,

The flight throttle section is where you should bind your throttle. That's basically controlling your acceleration and deceleration.

Thrusters (in this case) refer to the things that enable your ship to go straight up and down and from side to side. These are your vertical and lateral thrusters. You also have forward and reverse thrusters that you can bind that are essentially separate from your main engine. In other words you can have your engine part of the thrusters set to 0 m/s, but still maneuver your ship using the other thrusters.

Hope that makes sense.

Yep, that makes sense...well mostly. I understand what you're saying but it almost seems like having a fwd and reverse (aft?) thruster is not needed. But I'm sure it is and I'll understand it better after playing for a bit. Thanks very much for the quick reply!

You're welcome.

I actually find that I use the forward and reverse thrusters quite a bit, particularly when docking and leaving stations, and for small adjustments.

Fly safe... :)

Your forward and reverse thrusters operate the same as throttle. You can set your throttle and use your thrusters to speed up or slow around the throttle setting.
So if you have your throttle set at 50, you can operate your thrusters to move you from 50 to 100% all the way to 100% reverse.

The big difference is in supercruise where thrusters don't work.

Must confess, although I'm aware of them, in two years of playing I've never used the forward/aft thrusters (which I suppose doesn't necessarily qualify me to talk about them). If you've got HOTAS throttle control and are comfortable with the use of subtle nudges in both forward and reverse (e.g. for landing) then I'd say you probably don't need to worry about them.

Have to say that I've never used the forward/reverse thrusters either. I assume there's no advantage in combat?

Perfect timing to insert a video to show it does: :D

Personally I find it quicker and easier to dock using thrusters (with the throttle at zero when near the landing pad).

I bound my forward and reverse thruster and another set of left and right thrusters to one of the hats on my joystick but they are under the only when landing gear deployed section so I can use them to help me Centre on the pad.

I have up and down as well as left and right thrusters bound to a hat on the throttle for use in all flight modes.
