Difficulty finding suitable ground combat sites

I wonder if I'm missing some method of finding this with the GUI?

When I want to indulge in some ground FPS style combat I go to the Galactic map and search for War or Civil War systems.

I look for one with a decent sized population so it will have the recruitment place so I can be selective of the intensity of the fight and who I fight for.

I find a suitable system and travel there. "Sorry mate, no fightin' here."

Off I go again.......

This may happen more than once, but when I do find a fight, I prefer the High Intensity option. Not that I'm much good at FPS, I just prefer it.

So I land (again) stroll up to the desk, and there is a war, but it's all Low or Medium Intensity.

This can go on for some time.

Am I missing something, or do you have to do all this to find a fight?

You can see indications of battle on the system map when you arrive in the system, but as far as i can tell the intensity and the nature of the combatants is unclear. :-/

Sadly, there is no way to view conflict difficulty from the system map in your ship, as stupid as it is. It should really not be tied exclusively to the Frontline rep(but of course still be visible there if you want to use their shuttles).

You can find systems in War or Civil war state have ground conflict zone at below. If systems have many surface conflicts, there are high-GCZ at high probability.

Not perfect, but you can check Threat Level on bodies from system map, without need to dock and check at Frontline NPC

edit: Jack and Henry are right, Threat Level is unrelated, found this info "On the system map threat level is the security level of the settlement (which is relevant when the settlement is occupied in peacetime), not the intensity level of the on-foot CZ."

so i was just lucky but using INARA search and sort for surface conflict, let me found a system with high ground CZ quickly, every week.

I think Threat level is unrelated. I have gone to systems with Threat 3 very recently and found only Mediums.

Inara's nearest function is what OP wants. Go to Nearest > Misc > Wars and Civil Wars. Head to a system with a dozen or so ground sites (Inara says how many there are) and the likelihood of a High Ground CZ being there is notable.

I recommend Frontline's shuttles, personally. A trip of ideally under 500ls is good because I can shuttle down, win the CZ, log to menu, and reappear back at the station. I think there is an SRV thing one can use, but if that goes haywire it turns into quite the pickle from what I've read.

This is what I use - although, sometimes - not very often - it is a bit-out-of-date and the CZ's are all gone bye-bye

Rarely have any problems basing my CMDR out of a SRV. Occasionally if critically injured and returned to combat the SRV MAY be destroyed. I take that into account by having a spare or two on my ship.

Using the SRV saves on all the dead time, and very useful for systems with no FS.

I do ground combat every week. Usually I can find a High CZ within an hour (most times less). Previous week took 4 hours though. Could be my imagination but I swear there's less wars since the titans started blowing up.

Are you sure, a while ago I thought that it worked like this, but am pretty sure that it's unrelated..

edit: you are right, usually i search High CZ this way, I must have been lucky so far or TL3 presence maybe an indicator of possible high GCZ, but not 100% sure, I'll check more systems in future to be sure :)

FWIW, there has been (still ongoing) a massive conflict between a faction called Closed Encounters Corps and the various Marlinist factions. IMO a crazy war while the territory is under active thargoid attack. For the moment it seems to have died down a little, but still plenty of war to be had out that way.

That's pretty bizarre. I wonder if the Threat Level is somehow tied to Security level, then, or maybe Settlement type? Ag is 1, of course. Industrial might be 2? Military could be 3?

Would be a QoL improvement to have info on ship panel or system map like for space CZ, but at the moment using INARA and sort for system with high number of conflicts is the only way, lucky or not i found quickly every week a HighGCZ near a Station even with deceptive belief about TL :)

The system map should show a bit more information about settlements imo. CZ intensity for sure. Settlement size too, it sucks not being able to judge settlement size until you check the nav panel for the + or ++.

maybe I am mistaken but it seems that the difficulty level of ground conflict zones are always in the same locations. That's been my experience. So you can park your carrier over that planet and just hit the zones when they come back around. It's worked for me at least.

And when the war ends, boost the inf of the lower faction to generate a new war.
