I have an issue where after sending out an expedition it then got stuck on pause. No scientists are attached to it as I can fire them all. I can’t start or stop any new digs and it’s completely nuked my play through. Is there a workaround? I’ve tried firing my scientists and deleting the expedition centre but no luck.

Oh no, that sounds like a total playthrough killer! I've been there with games before, where one glitch just throws everything off track. Try messing around with save files (if your game allows it) or completely reinstalling the game as a last resort. Remember to back up your saves before diving.
Were you able to send out expeditions before? Could you share a screenshot? Which game mode is this?
There are times where I would get a message that my fossils are being held by customs and it would hold the process for 4x the intended duration, that is as close I got to your situation, could that be the case? Let us know how it goes, it could be saved without needing to restart the game mode if it ain't a bug.
