Dinosaur attack animations

Hi guys,

First of all let me just say that I am quite looking forward to this game, and from what I've seen so far it looks incredibly promising as a whole.

I do have one issue so far based on the footage available however, and that's the behavior/animations of the dinosaurs & victims/prey as they interact with each other. It looks incredibly clunky, with the dinosaurs at first chasing their prey before suddenly they both halt, look for a bit, and then suddenly a "pounce" animation triggers. I really hope this will be improved for release.

I believe it will be fixed before the release. But some of the animations in the gameplay reveals did look clunky, especially the animation where the Ceratosaurus eats the goat. That needs some work.

Yes, the goat eating animation in particular needs work.

Has anyone actually seen a carnivore eat an animal too large for it to swallow whole? Whenever I saw a Ceratosaurus kill a Gallimimus all it did was drop it, no further animations. It was as if they hadn't been included yet.

There is a Video of a Ceratosaurus fighting a Triceratops. It doesn't look to bad, but you can see that the Ceratosaurus isn't biting where it should.

Unfortunately .....fighting only.... I don't know for sure if it eats it but for the case of Gallimimus, it ate it with its corpse lying down - with no flesh shown whatsoever...

Edited:- I meant Struthiomimus
It does eat the Trike! but again no flesh no nothing.
At the End

Personally, I'm okay with no blood and gore.

I know it's too early to say but I really hope all the interaction animations to be made as Seamless, Dynamic, and have High Variation. Not Relying too much on Cinematic Animation as well - just as I said earlier.

Back to the host's concern, from what I observe when a Ceratosaurus kills a human, the AI seems to "Judge" a man way too early (I think it's just a bug that might have something to do with cinematic animation blending), instead of kicking in simultaneously, it tends to "hold" the man in position (With all his surrounding fellows have fled and continue to run), waiting the Ceratosaurus to walk in and eats him.

This is definitely the First Thing I would like to see Getting Fixed.

(I’m well aware of the argument that the animation is designed to have the human running initially and tripping)
All I’m saying is that the initialization function of the animation must be Optimized to have:-
- Greater Tolerance (to accommodate dynamic factors)
- Motion-Time Sensitive (seamless)
- Randomization based on subjects’ attributes (including a null result as well)

I would not worry about this guys. The version they showed was 0.30 if you look at the main menu. It was an alpha, I'm sure they even needed to add dinosaurs because there were only 8 squares of carnivores out of 30 totals.
In short, that demo was from a fairly early phase of development. I would not complain until I see the final version.

We must trust in Frontier

Exactly, I am surprised at how many people think that what we saw is the final product and are preaching it like it is.

Well here's to hoping they get it fixed for release then, otherwise it would be kind of gamebreaking IMO.

Watching dinosaurs interact "realistically" with humans & other dinos is one of the key selling points of the game for me.

While the animations are a bit choppy and pre-determined, seeing that it was an early-alpha build has to give us hope that the animations are in a much better place now and will be even better when the game is released. I know the game is a management/sim type of game so the action itself may not be seen as a top priority for this genre, but when you're dealing with dinosaurs, well, we all want the carnage! I'm hopeful that the game will ship with fluid animations.

They have already stated they will be having gore in the game. They do need to do work on the animation for killing other dinosaurs . If JPOG a 15 year old game can do it I'm sure they'll get it fixed.
