Dinosaur trample mechanic

All dinosaurs in the game must defend themselves from predators, especially herbivores. That could mean running over the predator. Imagine for example a T.rex attacking a herd of Triceratops, the herd runs and one of the herbivores runs over and tramples the T.rex with its powerful horns. Parasaurolophus and Edmontosaurus must have the power to trample small and medium predators while running. Thus, hunting attempts would be more realistic, involving chances of success and failure and in a given case, the carnivore (large/medium/small) can be killed or go away injured in some situations.

As soon as I read the title, first thing I thought of was the gallimimus stampede. That would be a neat thing. Ornitomimoids can remain fairly weak on their own, but gain strength in numbers. Even if they wouldn't be able to kill a predator, that shold at least be enough to stun a smaller one, giving the flock time to escape.

Also, like in the movie, they'd likely be generally harmless towards humans, but when startled, will run down anything in their path. Large groups fleeing a predator through a street could just be as devastating as the predator itself.

Exactly! I agree with everything you said! A stampede can be very dangerous even if they are small herbivores, a large herd can stun and injure a carnivore depending on size

When animals stampede, it's always to get away from the situation, almost never to attack. When they are in stampede mode anything in their path that is smaller is in danger of getting run over. Same size can potentially be injured, larger, the herd would go around avoiding contact

For ceratopsians, their best chance is a group defense, huddled shoulder to shoulder. Presenting 'shield and spears' to the threat and rotating as the predator circles to find an opening to launch an attack. Unless desperate the predator will just move off looking for a solitary individual or easier prey.

For non ceratopsians , speed and numbers are their defense. When a predator makes an attack run, the herd employs a scatter plan in an attempt to confuse the predator, buying the group valuable seconds to clear the kill zone..

Yes, good point, but I was thinking of trample not just as a stampede effect, but a big herbivore alone can literally trample a carnivore. The damage will be proportional to the size of the two obviously

If only this kind of posts had more visibility, and if only the developers could see it and read it, JWE would be much better and it already since the first game.
