Dinosaurs and Animals rosters from other games/media that could be a part of JWE3's final roster

One thing that stands out with JWE2 is the large roster of animals that players could house in their parks, with a total of 122 animals. This helps makes each new park build interesting as you could house a unique roster each time, providing you with a unique game feel when housing dinosaurs of different eras, families, niches, sizes, colors, and sounds.

One trend I have been seeing lately is how players are making parks with a roster of dinosaurs that are from or similar to those from documentaries, movies, books, and what else they are inspired to build their next parks. This really makes it engaging to see as it lets us really play with our dinosaurs that are connected to the dinosaur/paleo media we are exposed to.

If JWE3 is built with an ambitious mindset to continue with the roster that has been set in JWE2, then it could really stand out as an impressive Dino-sim park management game. There are hopes we could see the inclusion of Cenozoic creatures, as well as dinosaurs and animals from Jurassic World Chaos Theory and the 2025 Jurassic World Film. If Frontier plans to include dinosaurs and animals outside of the franchise, there is the chance that players could build parks with a dinosaur roster that could cover more paleo-related media that they have been exposed to.

I have built parks with rosters that are nostalgic to me, such as the JP franchise of movies, JPOG, Zoo Tycoon, Disney's Dinosaur, Walking with Dinosaurs, and much more. When thinking of what JWE3 could include, I have made this thread covering animal additions that could cover some of the paleo-related media I have nostalgic connections with, and possibly other members in the community as well.

Do note I do not think it would be possible that they all get included, if any get added at all, but it would be a nice checklist we could look back on to see if we have a roster in JWE3 that could cover these paleo-related media, both in and out of the Jurassic Park Franchise. If anyone has any additions that come in mind that covers other rosters in mind, please do share below!

When making these lists, I am doing so with the mindset if Frontier has decided not to cut any animal from the existing roster when transitioning them over to JWE3. Also, I am trying to limit repeated dinosaurs with these lists, so Ornithomimus for example would appear in the JPOG Cut Content list, and because it is already listed, I won't bring her up again in future lists that could include Ornithomimus.

CUT CONTENT - JURASSIC PARK OPERATION GENESIS (PC, XBOX, PS2, 2003)
New Dinosaurs-01.png

Ever since JWE1, players have been eager to see dinosaurs from JPOG be brought over to the game so that they could fulfill the JPOG experience in a new modern Jurassic Park builder game that comes with the bells and whistles that comes with modern gaming.

Not only has JWE1 brought back the JPOG roster with DLC, but there have been more that have been introduced in JWE 1+2 that even include the animals that were intended to be part of the JPOG roster. Apatosaurus, Deinonychus, Baryonyx, Maiasaura, and Wuerosaurus were amongst the cut roster that have been added to the Evolution games. Now, there are only 6 dinosaurs from the cut roster that could still make it into the game, which are:

1. Tenontosaurus
2. Panoplosaurus
3. Alioramus
4. Thescelosaurus
5. Ornithomimus
6. Yangchuanosaurus

These 6 dinosaurs are all that remains of the cut roster in JPOG. If they get added into JWE3, many fans of JPOG experience would be thrilled knowing that not only did the JPOG roster made it to the game, but even the cut content, leaving nothing behind.

DINO ISLAND (PC, 2002)
New Dinosaurs-12.png

This small game holds a special place in my heart.

Dino Island was a 2002 PC game that may be lacking as a park sim but was cartoonishly charming for what it delivered. You have a set number of dinosaurs you could purchase and place in your parks and have them as attractions, get into competitions, and I believe also had them fight in an arena. The most striking thing with this game was how you could genetically modify these Dinos, create hybrids with any of them, and even give them additional mutations such as change of color, feathers, and spikes etc.

When going over the roster, I am not surprised to see that only a handful of dinosaurs are not accessible in the JWE games, with that said, these 4 are some of the more requested animals.

1. Hypsilophodon
2. Pelecanimimus
3. Protoceratops
4. Saltasaurus

Dino Island was a nice time and is a nostalgic game for me, even outside of the game itself, I will always remember the YouTube videos that had the game's T-rex, Velociraptor, and pig goofing around. If these 4 do get included into JWE3, it would be such a nostalgic trip to house the Dino Island roster with all the advancements that the modern generation of consoles and PC could provide.

JURASSIC PARK BUILDER (Mobile, 2012 - 2020)
New Dinosaurs-05.png

Now this would be exciting to see.

I am sure many of us dabbled with this game when it was available, it was probably the best reason for me to have a FB account!

Back in 2012, it was a magical time to see this be available. There was this long pause when it came to Jurassic Park content in general since the 2003 JPOG game came out, and this alongside Jurassic Park The Game in 2011 felt like the JP franchise was being rekindled again, probably to coincide with the upcoming 20th anniversary of the movie at the time in 2013. I had this game on my iPhone back in university, and while it didn't have the same level of complexity as JPOG, it was nonetheless so fun to whip out my phone and grow a tiny roster of tiny dinosaurs.

This game would later be replaced by Jurassic World The Game, and with 2020 being the last year you could play this game, I am certain a lot of peeps missed playing this little mobile game.
The game would later get lagoon and glacier expansions, but I wanted to focus on the main Jurassic section, as there are only 5 animals that is needed to be added in order to have the 44 Jurassic Roster of the Builder animals available in JWE3.

1. Brontosaurus
2. Pteradactyl
3. Rajasaurus
4. Shunosaurus
5. Tuojiangosaurus

If the full roster of the Jurassic - Jurassic Park Builder animals get included in JWE3, then it would feel gratifying to see the 2012 Mobile Game roster be given a proper sim management level of quality in JWE3.

JURASSIC WORLD HOLOSCAPE (Jurassic World Film, 2015)
New Dinosaurs-08.png

One of the biggest things to come out of the recent Park Managers Dinosaur pack was the release of the little Segisaurus. Her inclusion in the game has allowed players to have a Jurassic Park roster of dinosaurs that is appropriate to the Jurassic Park map.

I think this would be ideal to bring up the Horoscape from Jurassic World. While there are many dinosaurs that reside on Isla Nublar that is not on the Horoscape, having the entire Horoscape roster of dinosaurs available would be an enjoyable direction when rebuilding Jurassic World.

1. Elaphrosaurus
2. Hadrosaurus
3. Hoplitosaurus
4. Lesothosaurus
5. Nipponosaurus

ZOO TYCOON - DINO DIGS (PC, 2002)
New Dinosaurs-07.png

The original Zoo Tycoon is as iconic as it gets when it comes to zoo focused sim management games, so much so that an expansion pack purely focused on bringing back extinct animals is the logical next step for this game.

Dinosaur digs released back in 2002, and was one of the few games that allowed players to build Jurassic Park before JPOG came out. With a handful of Cenozoic animals as well, it was a fun and educational paleo themed twist for the classic management sim game.

When reviewing the roster, there are only a handful of dinosaurs left, and with a handful of Cenozoic creatures as well, I decided to add them together if Frontier decides to debut a bigger roster of Cenozoic creatures in JWE3, especially since the ones in the game are already some of the most popular and familiar of the Cenozoic animals.

1. Camptosaurus
2. Caudipteryx
3. Deinosuchus
4. Lambeosaurus
5. Saber-Toothed Cat (Smilodon)
6. Wooly Mammoth
7. Wooly Rhinoceros
8. Giant Tortoise (Meiolania)
9. Plateosaurus
10. Giant Ground Sloth
11. Macrauchenia

I think that if the Zoo Tycoon Dino Digs roster is accessible in JWE3, then that would be really beautiful. Because back in 2002, we could build 'Jurassic Park'-esque park in Zoo tycoon - Dino Digs, only for the scenario to change completely where 20+ years later in 2025-6, you could build a 'Zoo Tycoon - Dino Digs' -esque park in an official Jurassic Park sim management game.

ZOO TYCOON 2 - EXTINCT ANIMALS' DINOSAURS (PC, 2007)
New Dinosaurs-06.png

With the sequel to one of the most iconic zoo games, there would eventually be a paleo-themed expansion. This time however, the focus is less on delivering a roster of dinosaurs to the game, and more of a variety of dinosaurs from across prehistory, but mostly from the Cenozoic Era to reflect more on the recently extinct animals, with a good handful of dinosaurs to choose from.

While I could list out every non-dinosaur extinct animal into the game that is not part of JWE, which is almost the entire expansion pack, I want to instead focus on the dinosaurs in the EP, because only two are not in JWE, being:

1. Protarchaeopteryx
2. Stokesosaurus

Zoo Tycoon 2: Extinct Animals would only have 12 dinosaurs available, 10 of which are already in the game, so by adding these two, you essential have the ZT2 EA dinosaur roster available to have in your parks.

THE RITE OF SPRING - FANTASIA (Film, 1940)
New Dinosaurs-10.png

When it comes to Jurassic Park as a concept, I always get the impression that it feels like how people used to see extinct animals as a whole in the past, like how every extinct animal has interacted with each other despite existing in different time periods and continents until a singular global disaster happened that wiped them all out.

Fantasia is the one movie that comes to mind, as they had this prehistoric theme and narrative for Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring Orchestra. You had a lot of animals of different time periods mixed together, a lot of dinosaurs with drooping tails that are dragged across the ground, and the whole prehistoric world being this one giant Marsh with very little variety in vegetation.

When playing Jurassic World Evolution 2, I always have this movie in my mind when building my parks, as this game does allow you to have dinosaurs and prehistoric animals from different eras existing in one location, which has a similar retro pop-culture paleo vibe this movie has.

When going over the list, aside from ornithomimus and possibly brontosaurus that were in the lists above, there are 4 prehistoric animals that could not only bring more of the Fantasia experience to JWE3, but more variety with extinct animals in general.

1. Archaeopteryx
2. Gryposaurus
3. Placochelys
4. Kannemeyeria

WALKING WITH DINOSAURS - PREHISTORIC PLANET 3D (Film, 2013)
New Dinosaurs-09.png

I recently watched the Walking With Dinosaurs documentary cut. The original movie was so terrible with all the forced voice acting, but the documentary style version was such a nice thing to play in the background, with the visuals already looking so excellent.

I think there is fun to be had if we had more dinosaurs from this movie, they, alongside dinosaurs we currently have like the Pachyrhinosaurus, Edmontosaurus, and Troodon, feel very appropriate to the colder climate this movie was set in. If JWE3 were to have cold climates like JWE2, these would be great additions.

1. Edmontonia
2. Gorgosaurus/Nanuqsaurus
3. Hesperonychus
4. Chirostenotes
5. Parksosaurus

WALKING WITH DINOSAURS (Documentary, 1999)
New Dinosaurs-11.png

2025 will be a crazy year, not only are we having the upcoming Jurassic World Movie, but the Walking with Dinosaurs documentary will make it's return!

Walking with dinosaurs is my comfort documentary, it alongside Jurassic Park I see are some of the best and most influential content about dinosaurs, which is amazing cause the documentary itself was inspired with how Jurassic Park utilized CGI for their dinosaurs.

I think it would be awesome if more WWD animals could be added into JWE3, especially because WWD does a great job fleshing out the triassic and Jurassic Periods which JWE needs more representation of.

1. Placerias
2. Postosuchus
3. Peteinosaurus
4. Cynodont
5. Othnelia
6. Ornitholestes
7. Anurognathus
8. Eustreptospondylus
9. Ophthalmosaurus
10. Cryptoclidus
11. Hybodus
12. Rhamphorhynchus
13. Leaellynasaura
14. Koolasuchus
15. Anatotitan (Larger Crestless Edmontosaurus Variant)

Looking at this roster, there is a healthy number of animals that could benefit Jurassic World Evolution 3. Terrestrial Non-dinosaurs, lagoon and aviary animals, and a few dinosaurs that could add to the small herbivores and carnivores. Anatotitan could also be a variant for Edmontosaurus, for as much as I love the JWE Edmontosaurus, I do miss the retro edmontosaurus that is often a tad larger than what we have with no crest.

BONUS SINGULAR ANIMALS
New Dinosaurs-03.png

These two I am including because they are the last of the animals that would complete the roster they are a part of.

The first one is from the old is the Scelidosaurus, specifically from Sid from the old Harry and his bucket full of dinosaurs. The Scelidosaurus is a nice dinosaur to have, and this species alongside the pterodactyl if introduced would allow players to have their own bucket full of dinosaurs. A neat treat for players who grew up with that show.

The other is just as interesting, it is the Moschops from Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter. With the game taking place in an alien world full of creatures that look like retro depictions of dinosaurs, it is amazing to see that JWE2 brought about all the game dinosaurs you could hunt into the park sim. The only animal that comes to mind is the Moschops, which was this ambient animal in that game similar to the Dimetrodon, Dimorphodon, and Brachiosaurus, but is so far the only one not in JWE. I think having this animal would be a fantastic small herbivore to have due to how alien (pun-not-intended) it would compare to the rest of the current roster, while also being an animal before the time of the dinosaurs.

Overall, this thread was fun to make. I loved going over the many paleo related media that I was exposed to myself, and look into what viable rosters could be made with new additions to the game. I am unsure how it will be like when Jurassic World Evolution 3 were to come out, but if Frontier were to continue where they left off with the current roster, with no cuts whatsoever, I think it will be an overall positive experience from the variety of dinosaurs and animals alone.

This thread also made me realize how much I love how massive the roster JWE2 has, because coming back to the game would always feels fresh knowing there are animals I have yet to incubate in a while, and also be able to house a roster of animals in a park knowing my sentimental enjoyment would keep me engaged.

What do you think? Does anyone have any prehistoric animal wishlist they have in mind that is inspired by other games, books, shows, or movies?
Do you have a go to roster of dinosaurs you like to incubate? I myself really enjoy the occasional Jurassic Park build where the dinosaurs were those of Jurassic Warpath, especially with how accurate of a cryolophosaurus you could incubate that looks like it was taken from the very psone fighting game decades ago.

If you're just adding them because "other stuff has them" then that's a pretty dumb reason to add anything... even more so when you consider how many of these animals don't add anything that isn't already added by other animals...

=JPOG=
  • Tenontosaurus is a good choice... it's one of the earlier and better known iguanodonts and lived alongside our lonely Sauropelta (as well as our hungry Deinonychus and Acrocanthosaurus).
  • Thescelosaurus is one of the bigger names from the Hell Creek formation... would make a solid addition.
  • Jurassic Asia remains oddly devoid of large carnivores... Yangchuanosaurus is probably the biggest and most obvious choice to fill that niche.
  • What Panoplosaurus does is covered by many nodosaurs, and there are plenty more significant choices that could be added instead...
  • Alioramus is covered by Qianzhousaurus; same time and place, same basic build...
  • Ornithomimus is covered by Struthiomimus; again same time, place and build... and don't say "but feathered skin" because they could easily do that for Ornithomimus if they wanted to...

=Dino Island=
Actually, all four animals--Saltasaurus, Pelecanimimus, Protoceratops, and Hypsilophodon--would be good additions... each one adds something that currently isn't found in the game.

=JP Builder=
  • Rajasaurus is probably the most iconic of Asian abelisaurids... although there is competition from abelisaurids in general.
  • Shunosaurus remains one of the more mysterious omissions... as I recall, the club-tailed sauropod is pretty iconic and shared its home with Huayangosaurus.
  • Pterodactyl isn't a real animal; the name you are looking for is Pterodactylus, which would actually make a great addition, being an extremely well known pterosaur that featured a fleshy crest.
  • Brontosaurus wouldn't add anything we don't already get from Apatosaurus (they were considered synonymous for how long?) and there's already plenty of Morrison sauropods in the game.
  • Tuojiangosaurus should have been in the game since the beginning... but with the inferior Chungkingosaurus taking its spot in the game, it's fairly redundant...

=Holoscope=
  • Elaphrosaurus would be fun... a noasaurid ceratosaur, looks kinda like an ornithomimosaur, and coexisted with Kentrosaurus.
  • Lesothosaurus is also good... little is known of its affinities beyond being a primitive ornithichian, it shared its environment with other Early Jurassic herbivores like the common prosauropod Massospondylus, and the unusual Heterodontosaurus.
  • Hadrosaurus is basically nothing compared to Edmontosaurus... worst case scenario, it'll end up like Nodosaurus or "Becklespinax"; literally a completely different and better known animal with an obscure genus tacked on.
  • Nipponsaurus is in the same boat as Hadrosaurus; known from a single juvenile specimen of debated validity, it's nothing unique...
  • Hoplitosaurus is an inferior Sauropelta and in the same boat as Panoplosaurus; plenty of better alternatives...

=Zoo Tycoon=
Looking at that list, it's hard to say any of them wouldn't be worth adding... that said...
  • Caudipteryx might be interesting, being another feathered dinosaur from the Yixian Formation... that said, there are many potential oviraptorids that could be added to the game, some of which seem a bit more significant...
  • Lambeosaurus would be fun, if only for making huge mixed herds with Corythosaurus and Parasaurolophus... but that's pretty much the entire appeal, it doesn't add anything the other two don't already add.
  • Deinosuchus would be awesome, no doubt... but only if they got semi-aquatics figured out. Putting this guy in a lagoon tank, even if there weren't plenty of fully aquatic crocodiles to choose from, would be dreadful...

=Zoo Tycoon 2=
  • Protarcheopteryx is another oviraptorid that comes from the same time and place as Caudipteryx... honestly, if I had to pick between the two, I think I'd prefer the former... if only because Caudipteryx is easier to pronounce...
  • Stokesosaurus is known from miniscule remains and, what more, was poorly represented in ZT2... what little we know says it was tiny, and if I was gonna pick a tiny Morrison predator, I'd sooner go with Ornitholestes.

=Fantasia=
  • Archeopteryx would be awesome, no doubt... a little small, but if they scaled it up to the size of Jeholopterus, it should be fine...
  • Kannemeyeria would be a prime choice for a large dicynodont...
  • Placochelys, despite its appearance, is a placodont, not a turtle... there are actually several good choices among the group, including Placodus, Psephoderma and Henodus, so there's a bit of competition.
  • Gryposaurus... ehh... it's one of the few animals that lived alongside Nasutoceratops... but then, so is Parasaurolophus... and similar, bigger name hadrosaurs like Saurolophus, Kritosaurus or Brachylophosaurus exist...

=WWD Movie=
  • Edmontonia remains one of the more shocking omissions of the roster... up there with Tuojiangosaurus and Yanchuanosaurus really... but I guess they really had to add Borealopelta "Nodosaurus".
  • Gorgosaurus is absolutely not necessary... it does nothing Albertosaurus doesn't already do.
  • Hesperonychus is so scrappy it seems some scientists aren't convinced its actually a dinosaur...
  • Chirostenotes... meh... we know a lot more about the related Anzu from the Hell Creek formation...
  • Parksosaurus would be okay... it's another small thescelosaurid dinosaur... but once again, I'd sooner go with the Hell Creek alternative; Thescelosaurus.

=WWD=
  • Placerias is okay... but being on WWD is pretty much its entire selling point... there are plenty of other dicynodonts, like Kannemeyeria and Lisowicia that stand out more...
  • Postosuchus is in the same camp as Placerias; the spot in WWD is all it has going for it... there are others like Fasolasuchus, Saurosuchus and Prestosuchus that could add more...
  • Peteinosaurus isn't bad... but it is a bit on the small side... and there are other choices like Eudimorphodon and Austriadactylus with unique features to consider.
  • There's no such thing as "Cynodont"... a cynodont is any animal in the group Cynodontia... the animal in WWD is supposedly Thrinaxodon, but there are plenty of cynodonts out there, including the larger and better known Cynognathus that Thrinaxodon co-existed with.
  • Othnelia doesn't exist anymore... nowadays we call them Nanosaurus, and Dryosaurus covers pretty much everything they could do.
  • Ornitholestes might be nice, being one of the few decently well known small predators of the Morrison formation...
  • Anurognathus is a smaller Jeholopterus, and I get the feeling Jeholopterus is pushing the minimal limit of aviary animals...
  • Eustreptospondylus would certainly make way more sense than Metriacanthosaurus... but as it stands, Metriacanthosaurus is in and it does everything Eustreptospondylus could hope to do.
  • Opthalmosaurus isn't bad... but Ichthyosaurus has its niche basically covered, and there are still plenty of other choices for ichthyosaurs...
  • Cryptoclidus, like Ophthalmosaurus, is basically covered by its in-game equivalent--Plesiosaurus--and there are plenty of alternatives that may add more to the game...
  • Hybodus is one of the most common sharks in history... not a bad choice really...
  • Rhamphorhynchus is another one of those shocking omission choices... well known, currently nothing really like it in the game and, last I checked, really popular with the fan base...
  • Leaellynasaura might be nice... there are plenty of other animals that could do what it does, but on the other hand, it's practically the only dinosaur left that we might call an Australian essential...
  • Koolasuchus, like Deinosuchus above, would be super awesome... but only if they implement semi-aquatic options...
  • Anatotitan is nowadays regarded as synonymous with Edmontosaurus... at best, it might work as a variant, but as a unique animal? Please no...
