Direct comma from npc asking me to follow them?..

I was flying around minding my own business when an npc popped up on the chat and said they'd been looking for me and would I follow them. Anyone had this before?

I couldn't find them to follow them despite scanning as many ships as could see?

What am I supposed to do in this situation does anyone know?

Thanks

John :)

This usually happens when you take missions from the bulletin board, the npc will be trying to offer you an alternative mission. They drop from SC and you drop into their wake.

maybe you accepted a mission, and that particular NPC wants you to change your mind.

if you were unlucky enough to let the npc disappear (happens rather fast), that ship most prolly jumped out of supercruise, so check for low-energy wakes closeby, and get to it as fast as possible.

It's the new way of getting alternative missions. I think it is also used to sign you up to fighting in conflict zones.
You simply have to lock onto their 'wake' and follow it in then drop from supercruise.
After this you will get approached by the same ship with details of the alternative mission.
The alternative will pop up in your comms panel and you have options to leave it there, 'bin' it or accept(tick) it.
If you accept, the original mission is replaced with this new one.
If you 'bin' it then new mission is removed
Or you can return and leave the option there for later consideration.

Yeah I blow those guys up when I see them. They try to discourage you from the objective by offering an alternative target.

I've been ignoring them because I was flying a weaponless ship plus/minus shields in open, so, didn't think they were worth the risk ;-)
since the fix/patch missions have been paying well anyway

Brilliant. A really big thank you for all the replies and the great info. Will check them out next time it happens and see what they offer. Thanks again :))
