Because empirical trending data speaks the loudest. Let's hear thoughts on what is being currently implemented.

This isn't a single "hot-button topic" thread. this is your opinion of beta stages --> release --> 1.1

I'd like to see some opinions / data for the FD team to take note of.

No opinion from me to leave the initial post unbiased.

I'd say wanting to have ships regardless of tremendous cost variances be balanced was the first shock for me but then having then hugest game universe I've ever seen and not let players own property was another shock. Then having planetary landings as the first scheduled DLC really blew my mind, it's a nice feature but i was hoping for actual content or game tools to greater affect the universe with. It's their game in the end and ill play it as long as its my best option for this genre. I can only hope it gets better from here.

Such a small proportion of the DDA 'designs' has been implemented, that it is hard to discern what the dirction really is. In general, I support the DDA stuff, especially on the big items that gets so many worked up. But the level of watering down of the DDA designs, dumbing down, and the showstoppers they left out ;eave me confused more than anything.

+10000 this.

Really got sold on the ideas in the DDA way back before alpha. The width and depth of gameplay was incredibly good to read and with the legitimacy of the DDF providing over and back discussion on the merits of each individual area of the game made it seem that FD were really thinking about whether these things were doable. So credit card in hand I tossed over £300 quid and saw them release the amazing alpha.

And since then like you say scotty watered down describes my feeling accurately also. Problem is as time goes on I see very little evidence that any of the amazing ideas in the DDA will ever get implemented as they sooooo far away from what we have at the moment. There is very little if anything at all from FD about the direction at the moment. People who are utterly pleased with the game may well say this is because of the "negative" feelings round here. They may well be right, but here's the rub, FD hiding themselves away isn't helping one.single.bit.

FD need to Up the ante and come out fighting and show people what exciting things they have planned, they don't need to be specific on dates but a rough timescale and what they intend to feature would be the responsible thing to do instead of letting the forums fester along with the goodwill shown towards them by the backers.

I've always thought the game was shoved out the release door 2-3 months to early. But I also saw ED as a long term work in progress, and I still have had confidance that Frontier can support and improve the game in the long run.

I personally consider 1.2 to be the true "release" and this will be the milestone I'll measure against - this is where I'll consider if the "core" game can be considered completed. And if Frontier can maintain the momentum after that, the game should be in very good shape by the end of the year.

But so far all signs point to "They're on the right track."

From what's been released in 1.1 and with wings coming next month, development seems to be on track and following a similar schedule to beta. Exploration has changed loads with the new features, even though they seem pretty small on paper and don't touch on the common complaints. Just goes to show what a bit of development can do.

I doubt everything in the DDA will be implemented (a few bits didn't seem like they'd work that well in reality) but I think in six months to a year it'll be getting close. It's going to be interesting to watch it grow.

What's DDA?

Design Decision Archive (my sig has a link).

Some (but not all) of the threads from the DDF (Design Decision Forum) made available for everyone to see. The DDF was a talking shop where FD floated their design thoughts to a group who paid £300 for the privilege during the kickstarter. The DDF then argued things to death, and FD promised to read everything that was posted. FD then came back with revised designs - and it is largely those that are visible in the DDA.

Then FD went off and built something else.
