dirty windscreen

Makes it less hard to spot neutron stars as they light up the canopy smears on the edge facing them. So for exploring you *want* a dirty screen!

Presumably it's internal condensation on whatever that transparent material actually is ... not glass.

Well, humanity invented automatic electronic vehicle climate systems a long time ago to prevent this kind of stuff from happening. Even with a greasy window. The climate control system pumps around the air and any moist condenses on the condensator of the air conditioner. Just like in a car and the first rocket shot into space with humans/dogs/apes. In aviation, space flight and any other vehicle involving serious business lesson one is to have clean windows for 'reasons'. Officially you're not allowed to have certain windows not clear for sight or risk a fine. That includes dirt, snow, too shaded or blinded primary windows.

Still needs to be removed or toggle been a pet peeve for many since game was created. It doesn't add to the immersion it breaks it.

Agreed, this 'feature' is a major bugaboo

Also, no matter how much I spend on a ship it always has a scratched up console between by knees. I mean the console seems to have no other purpose then aside from bearing this ever persistent scratch mark.

Could it at least be clean when you get a new one!

This is a very good point, perhaps it could be dynamic, I would pay a couple of credits to get them cleaned when I dock, maybe we could have a virtual bikini carwash to raise money for a good cause :p there is a lotta glass in my DBS cockpit :D

Then there's modern day polymers used in more expensive road vehicles, aviation and space flight that make it nearly impossibru for molecules to be cohesive with the window in question.

You just need to get better quality window cleaning slaves! Those imperial slaves just don't have their heart in it.

This.

For me, I like that the windscreen / windshield gets (or is?) dirty,
But would love it even the more, if it was possible to get it repolished.

It might even seem to be a specialist service? Not available at your everyday repair station maybe? Not sure.
Meanhwile, better keep your shields on .. travelling without makes your screen susceptible, to grit.

Or when you've just spend 1.7 mil to fix hull integrity...

Maybe it's part of the cockpit repair ..

Hope either way, glass shining doesn't get considered as part of the paint integrity .. I travelled a couple of hundred light years to get that "hobo" look (0% paint) on my sidewinder run around .. (while packing, fully maintained, grade one guns under the hood, mwuhaha)

This little ditty has saved a few Imperial lives..

Your villa's dirty
Your slaves are lax
They're getting bolshie
So watch your backs

I hope when the whole "walking around ships" bit gets added, our character can finally get off his lazy backside, grab a bottle of Windex and a rag, and wipe that canopy clean.

Umm confession time!
.
Way back when I first got my shiny, brand new Cobra, so sparkly and clean. Took it for it's initial spin around the neighbourhood, then docked and proceeded to spend 10 minutes cleaning my monitor screen thinking it was dirty ..... Took me a couple of more flights to realise it was the 'intended' look on the game

There should be a "ship-wash" option as you're entering a station - choose it while docking and pay a fee, and then as you're entering the letterbox it starts spraying soapy water, and a set of roller-washers are deployed from the floor and ceiling for you to fly through.
