CQC Disable life support in CQC: Less heat, no downside

Disabling life support starts a 10 minute countdown timer, while a CQC match has at most 7.5 minutes. Thus, disabling life support at the beginning of a match has no downsides. When dying, the module is still selected, so doing this again is as easy as 4-space-space-4.

Why would you do it?

  • Fire your lasers longer before overheating
  • Decrease visibility on enemy sensors!

Aaskar Aaskarsson and me have been able to verify the second point: We went to the map border, he disabled life support, and I was able to see his idling ship up to a distance of 1.85 km. When he enabled life support, he appeared on my scanner up to 1.92 km. There is a difference, and it might be the difference between life and death for you one day. [smile]

Doesn't seem to make much of a difference then.. 1.85km is way beyond shooting range anyway.

Have you done any tests for silent running ships? That probably could give some interesting results.

Other than that it seems like a hassle to go to right hand panel to switch off life support every time the game starts... probably macros could be used, but still.

Update: At least the Eagle also has a cargo hatch. Disabling that, and disabling life support as well, really makes a difference in power consumption.

About silent running, I have not tested that yet, but disabling modules in general has a strong effect on increasing the silent running duration.
