Disable Ship Voice Effects

I was wondering about how much the Sound Options will be expanded by as we move forward and was thinking about the option to disable the standard ship voice effects.

The main reason I was thinking of this is that I use Voice Attack when I play and for some of my commands I have my computer speak back to me. Sometimes this leads to my computer saying (for example) "Cargo scoop deployed" and as that finishes the ingame ship voice says the same thing. It happens quiet a few times, hence my question. True I could not have my computer speak back to me, but as it says other things that the ship does not I would like to keep it for all of them.

I do not want this part discussed further here (as there's a big enough discussion already) but it would also solve another problem. I am not a fan of the Frameshift drive countdown timer as it is at the moment, as it's wrong, and the option to turn off the voice would mean that this should put an end to the argument for those of us it bothers.

My ideal situation would be to have the option of turning off or on all of the different voice parts individually. I realise that may seem a bit extreme or a lot of work, but I think it would be worth it as I'm sure there are people who would like the voice for the countdown turned off, but don't have any other external way of the ship to communicating. Or equally people who have their own ship voice, but want the countdown kept.

I had a look through the DDA and couldn't see anything about the sound options there, but I may have missed it, thoughts?

I seem to remember that switching off the sound HUD (removing *simulated* environmental sounds and only being left with the in-cockpit sounds) was also thrown about as being an option. I can imagine the current sound settings will get expanded further at some stage.

Expanding the Audio control pannel is, IMO, a good idea.
I would like to have sliders for different groups of sounds.
I would also like to stream my own music to listen to. Or like The Stig, listen to audio books during those long hours in the cockpit.

I agree, having an audio control panel would be very welcome.

Something that gets on my nerves is just before you engage hyperspace it sounds like the ship's voice gets cut off in the middle of saying "engage"

i.e. "enga-BOOM"

I'd love to turn that off

I love that effect. I've spent hours listening to it, trying to decipher what it says. To me at always sounded like "JuuuuAUUUUUUUUmp", very similar to the way the Hybrid would instruct the Cylon Basestar, but distorted.

My ship got freaked out earlier and said "Read to Engage" just before starting the countdown and then she got as far as "Engag-BOOM"

Close but no cigar :p

More customization is good, some of the voice-thingsies (technical term :p) can get tiresome ('cargo bay at maximum capacity', for instance)

Indeed. I hold out hopes for a vocal confirmation for every command and keybind, and the option to turn any of them on or off individually. Probably won't happen though.

I would like to be able to turn off them thunder noises whilst in Supercruise, I find them rather bizarre and completely out of place. I prefer to hear the purring of my engines rather than that.

I'm sure more options for everything, including sound will come as the game is polished. I would love an option to have the in game computer sound like Glados out of portal that would be cool!

Only things that currently annoy me are the cut off off the word "engage" just before the hyperspace jump and the fact that sometimes when you fill your cargo bay she says "warning! Cargo bay at maximum capacity" nitpicky I know but it isn't really something serious enough to be `warned` about is it? Tell me I'm at max cargo capacity by all means but don't warn me about it, it's hardly life threatening is it? :D

Seriously though and on a positive note, the sound in this game is just amazing. The engine sound as it powers down after a hyperspace jump listened to through some decent headphones never gets boring, it is just one of a plethora of incredible sound effects in this game :D

Depends what you're hauling :D Say it was live animals, if you overcrowd them too much and don't clear up after them the gasses could become toxic :p
