Disable the generator-missions.

Ok, so, lately, I've been working out of an outpost, where a bunch of anarchists keep giving me this type of mission.
I'm supposed to fly to a nearby system, land at some outpost down the well, laser their generator to death, and return to collect a nice 600k.
I've not yet built up any type of influence, but I see the same type of mission with a nice reward of 1.3mil.

The thing is, these missions are done in 10 minutes, offer no real danger, and pay nicely. I feel as I'm almost doing something wrong, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
There are thing I can scan in there, but I don't know what that's good for.

There's one public access point, that when scanned, initiates something not really explained. I then have 2 minutes to do something else- usually scan another beacon-thing inside the outpost itself. (if I scan the not-public access point first, the alarm gets tripped, but I get no extra info either way).
The scanning part is totally optional.

Am I missing something? Why isn't everyone talking about these types of missions? The pay's good, especially for new players, as it only requires an srv..

Those things you can scan have change to drop you data and sometimes rare data (the data you need for crafting) and some of those data can only be found this way or as mission reward if you are even luckier. So if you want to do some engineer mod you need to scan those and a lot...

There is a larger discussion here on similar topic.

I recently attempted this type of mission and have destroyed 2 ships and 1 SRV in the process so far. The parked security ship stationed there goes to full attack as soon as I approach too close or fire with my ship.

With my ship, I can see the generator (and a bunch of turrets) but I can not target anything except that parked security ship. Maybe I'll just try free aiming at the generator like the OP states.

I can drive around the grounds with no concerns with my SRV only if I don't scan a certain access point; one of the green 'fatter' access points made the whole settlement defense come alive and tear me to shreds. If I jump jet the SRV onto the generator platform, the whole settlement comes defensively alive also.

Very vague, and to me, difficult mission.

Yes that is a gameplay mechanic, you can not target lock ground based systems from your ship unless they fire at you and then it will only be for a brief period of time when this target locking window is available. The alternative is to use free aim and fire weaponry.
