Disable the Megaship Turrets

I wish to announce that just now, after more than 1k hours of play, I've successfully completed the mission "Disable the Megaship Turrets." I consider this one of my greatest achievements yet. The first time I tried it, I was sitting in my Sidewinder, having just started the game. I thought, "500k credits for ONE mission! I'll be filthy rich!" I arrived at the megaship, simply fired at it -- and was blown to pieces. The next time, I had done my research: "You need to SCAN the thing! And then you need to scan ANOTHER thing!" (I'm skipping the part where I researched everything from Wake Scanners to Manifest Scanners to figure out which scanner to use...) So I ended up scanning the defence turret. That should do the job! I fired at it (the turret that is) -- and got blown to pieces. I was like, "&%!&^$#." (I'm skipping the part where I crashed into the megaship multiple times because maneuvering around it seemed next to impossible.) The next time... I don't remember what I did, but I ended up getting blown to pieces. "OK," I thought, "screw this game."

But I stuck with it, although I discarded the mission. In due time, I bought my first Anaconda and thought: "Disable the Megaship Turrets -- We still have a score to settle!" So I went to find the megaship, started scanning... and all of a sudden, a bunch of pirates jumped in. I mean, a lot. The megaship asked for help, and I was like, why not be chivalrous and help them out? I mean, what could possibly happen to me? I'm sitting in a bloody ANACONDA! So I picked a fight with the pirates and within seconds got blown to pieces by an FDL. I thought, "This... can... not... be... happening..." I discarded the mission, certain that I'd never try it again.

So there it is. "Disable the Megaship Turrets": You're toast! I defeated you! You have nothing on me! You didn't bring me down! I prevailed! TAKE THAT!

Call me Elite.

Personally, I popped some better shields on whatever ship I did them in and rammed the turrets.
Megaship sees repeated and deliberate attacks by ramming to be accidents and does nothing.

Once you get used to them, you can just visually locate the power things by the turrets and pop them. I have largely ignore installation play until recently, and there is some cool stuff involved once you take the time to figure it all out.

Meanwhile, I found a megaship in an anarchy system the other day and strapped collectors, hatchbreakers and missile launchers to a T7 just for the meme value of pirating a freighter in a T7. Once you learn where the turrets are (it's good to do a flyby and scan them all first with the data link scanner before you actually engage) a single dumbfire will pop the generators.

Another fun fact: the missions are bugged and you don't have to go the the megaship it tells you to go to in the mission. Any megaship turret counts towards the mission, so if your mission takes you to a highsec system and you don't want to be dogpiled by cops, then... well. Go hunting.

Yes, I have reported it on the tracker.

Congratulations!

I'm still yet to do one of these missions, but the premise scares me, even if I have a suped up Fortress called a Corvette, but I have a very cautious nature and I pick my fights carefully, I ain't a risk taker even if I have an absurd amount of credits... maybe today might be the day I get a little Dangerous...
