Disabling flight assist is useless...

... in its current state.

We need to be able to independently disable angular and linear velocity.

Disabling angular velocity without disabling linear velocity will help with docking.

Disabling linear velocity without disabling angular velocity will make dogfights a lot more interesting, being able to keep your guns pointed at the enemy once mastered.

Disabling both at the same time does not work either of the above scenarios: having linear velocity disabled while docking will most likely smash you into the station while you struggle with synchronizing angular velocity and having angular velocity disabled while in a dogfight is just plain suicide.

Practise will make perfect, there are lots of people who fly almost entirely with FA off. Sadly I am not one of them, my reactions are just too slow and I over compensate.... but it is technically a more correct way of flying.

I agree, let be "rotation stoper" and "speed control", and when both is "on", it will be the FA

These discussions have all been had a long time ago. Just taking out rotation but keeping speed promotes turrets in space was the finding IIRC. In short, I find combat in ED great fun and quite exciting. It has been clear since premium beta that a lot of love has gone in to this and it shows IMHO. I really don't want them to change what I think works really well. Especially when there are other areas of the game needing some love in the new year.

I toggle it on or off as required but cannot fly competently for long with it off when under duress as I start to overcompensate. Some have it permanently off. Its a fun skill. Check out Isinona's vids, he flies exclusively with Flight assist off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeAmpWRv3jw for example

Absolutely, and very well put.

Also, disabling angular damping would allow rotation rate to increase the longer thrust is applied, and thus also require longer to slow down again too.

Configurable assists would be a tremendous improvement over the current restrictions, and inject some skill quotient back into the dumbed-down handling...
