Disappointed with JWE 2

I really enjoyed the first game with linear missions, the well designed interface and the gameplay. Now I got the second game this week and Im disappointed. The missions are not intiutive sometimes especially california, the story is pathetically short, the interface is sometimes outright stupid and the maps are still WAY TOO SMALL. Overall the game feels like a copy of the first game with more micro management. Too bad.

Before I even entered a map I had to facepalm when I left the species viewer. When I left it asked me if I really wanted to exit to the main menu because "you will lose any unsaved changes". What changes? Its a viewer. Its not in any way affecting my game.

What really bugs me, as a person with high standards when it comes to intuitive game interfaces, is the way some buttons are placed. For example I was driving a car and all things I need to push are explained in the lower left EXCEPT how to switch equipment. Thats in the upper left in a tiny box next to the equipment. Who expects that?! I dont know how long I searched to find it but it really shouldnt be up there. I didnt think about checking keybinds because I was so frustrated about this.

The
"Downloadabl
e content"
in the main menu is triggering my OCD beyond measure!

  • Navigating large menus is straining the eyes because its hard to tell where the scroll bar is. Its so thin it would make a single hair look large. Im already wearing glasses but this is just unhealthy.
  • Maps outside the story are pretty much identical to the first game.
  • The DLCs dont seem to offer any new story like the DLCs from the first game. Just skins and dinos.
  • The rest button in the scientist tab is under the bio box which is a passive box and then another active button is ontop of that. The active elements should always be seperate from passive interface objects and stand out abit. I only found it by accident.
  • Dinosaurs swallow phones deep in the woods and need medical attention? They eat entire prey with their bones but a single swallowed phone is a problem? And this "problem" requires manual intervention?!
  • During california mission my asset rating box disappeared. I always had to manually check in the menu for me mission goal.
  • Buildings could have one meter of path so we can directly connect them to the existing path instead of always manually adding this one centimeter of path for the building to work.
  • There is still no way for a path to go through a gate. This feature along would give us so many new possibilities to build.
  • When refuelling a building the window cant be dismissed with right click like almost any other window.
  • We cant switch from one building to another. We have to deselect one and then move on to the next.
  • Some buildings snap to paths, others dont for no apparent reason.
  • Goats outrun the indoraptor! Mine almost starved and I had to place food dispensers to save him!
  • The indominus lost the black skin. Im sure it will be added in a future skin DLC.
  • When in fence mode we cant select the theme.

Is this game still in alpha or beta phase? I cant believe they released it like this. Many of the problems from the old game were literally copied into this game it seems. But I still tried. I finished the story, the challenges and built a nice park in sandbox mode but it feels like I paid 36 bucks just to do the same as I did in the first game. Now Im kinda bored already. I hope there will be big changes coming to make this game last for more than a few days.

Well, then i must be one of those who disagree. I find the interface very intuitive, quick, and most of the things are in the right place (not all, but most of them). Sure there are always improvements to be made, but you do things pretty fast in this game. Maybe you just need more practice.

I think JWE 2 was oryginally planned to release with Jurassic World Dominion in June but Universal won't to release it in November that's why game is so glitched and underdeveloped

True that it was most likely planned to be released alongside the movie, but that actually got pushed back a year due to covid so the game got more time in development than when it had been released in June 2021 which was the original release set for the movie. If anything the delayed movie release could be blamed for missing campaign parts that'd spoil parts of the movie and hence had to be cut from the initial game release, but that's about it.

As far as OP goes, those are minor annoyances at best IMO and in a lot of cases I didn't even notice those things and that "swalloed phone" thing is a funny easter egg relating to JP3 Spino...The game sure has some things it still needs to work on, but the latest update already went a long way in making it a whole lot better than it was at release. I'm also pretty sure we'll get more story dlcs (most likely next one with Dominion) as the first game also had both, dino and story dlcs.

I think there will be a huge update for the game when Dominion releases. I also think Frontier will support JWE2 for a while.

I wasn't disappointed. It's a major improvement over the first game in many ways. It seems like they focused on the sandbox for this game. You don't have a 20+ hour long campaign. You supposed to play around in sandbox. They did a pretty good job with giving us a lot of stuff for the Sandbox this time around. Some stuff came later like the campaign maps. But Frontier was quick to respond.

I kind of found the campaign in JWE to drag on a little too long. You were basically doing the same things over and over on islands that basically looked the same except for the sizes. They tried to use the time of day to make them different. But that didn't work very well. I was a little skeptical of the different biomes in JWE2 but they all work well. Though a JP themed park will always feel more at home in a tropical setting.

This game is more dependent on sandbox than JWE was. Thankfully you can run a sandbox park just like you would a campaign park/facility or Chaos Theory park.
